PPT Issues regarding summer program

Rajiv J. Root

I’m most concerned about:
Lifting System
Personal Care Assistance for NTID
Traveling to NTID

Since I really want to get into the dream college, which is at National Technical Institution for the Deaf, in Rochester, NY. Without PCA and Lifting system, I can’t go to college after high school without those needs.

The most important thing for me to make transition from high school to college and independent living, is that I need a Lifting System that will work for me. Then Personal Care Assistance comes next.

As of 5/16/05 @ 3:38pm, I called Jennifer (she is the part of EYF) through the video relay interpreter, and I told her that we are talking about EYF. She understands that I am having difficulties, however she said that NTID/RIT doesn’t offer PCA and I must have a lifting system. I was told that there are ACCESSIBLE DORMS (According to Section 2, paragraph #3 of Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, quoted

“Discrimination against individuals with disabilities persists in such critical areas as employment, housing, public accommodations, education, transportation, communication, recreation, institutionalization, health services, voting, and access to public services” )

She also suggests that I get BRS to help me and that she would be glad to talk with any of team members through phone about the college’s rules regarding people who are deaf and also have secondary disabilities.

Her phone is (***) ***-**** (Voice and TDD).

Vamp.. it's for the wheelchair access into van.. or a mini-van.. most of time they use regular van.. so the wheelchair can be lift into van and strap on the wheelchair.. as I used to work in a group home we have these access lifting mobile van..

My mother in law now has one, she use portable lifting system so it can be lift from ground into van. she walk to drive the mini-van.. so.. there are few different kind of lifting system..

Now RJR, Have you check with the CP program.. these CP tend to help with people who has CP, so they could provide funds for colleges, lift systems etc..

I think RRJ means... Lifting System .. like tools for his dorm room .. like hanging the triangle up on ceiling for him to pulling and getting up and get out of bed and put it on looklike chair on giant tool to move to on his wheelchair .. i remmy some handicapped ppl like that on their own of their living home /apartments ...

Yes, that's what I am looking for and thanks for the link! I will pass on to State of CT's Bureau Rehabilitation Services, and there is a quadriplegic woman who works for the state, she will assist me with my needs.

The PPT went very well, I have to take personal finance courses over the summer, be more involved in communities, and do volunteer work. Then in the end of July, I will be going to University of Connecticut (Storrs) since there is State's Youth Leadership Forum for all people with disabilities. I recently signed the state's YLF papers asking me if I want to be involved in talent show and be in local newspapers. I will be doing poetry for the talent show.

Maybe I will see some of Deaf/HOH YLF students, so I will not be lonely! :)
