Please me know what you think.
PPT Issues regarding summer program
May 17, 2005
Rajiv J. Root
I’m most concerned about:
Lifting System
Personal Care Assistance for NTID
Traveling to NTID
Since I really want to get into the dream college, which is at National Technical Institution for the Deaf, in Rochester, NY. Without PCA and Lifting system, I can’t go to college after high school without those needs.
The most important thing for me to make transition from high school to college and independent living, is that I need a Lifting System that will work for me. Then Personal Care Assistance comes next.
As of 5/16/05 @ 3:38pm, I called Jennifer (she is the part of EYF) through the video relay interpreter, and I told her that we are talking about EYF. She understands that I am having difficulties, however she said that NTID/RIT doesn’t offer PCA and I must have a lifting system. I was told that there are ACCESSIBLE DORMS (According to Section 2, paragraph #3 of Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, quoted
“Discrimination against individuals with disabilities persists in such critical areas as employment, housing, public accommodations, education, transportation, communication, recreation, institutionalization, health services, voting, and access to public services” )
She also suggests that I get BRS to help me and that she would be glad to talk with any of team members through phone about the college’s rules regarding people who are deaf and also have secondary disabilities.
Her phone is (***) ***-**** (Voice and TDD).
