My dog, 12 yrs old, is going deaf.

That's all you gonna say? That's very short post. :P How did he become deaf, age? Are you gonna teach him sign language? :eek2:
 
The old cat we had at home who died this summer went deaf because she got old. Sometimes, she would eat leftovers from pans on the stove and not get off until she sees us or feels us picking her up.
 
Did the vet tell you the reason why your dog going deaf or is he just getting older?..

I'm new on this when it comes to animals that gone deaf...so why don't you tell me a bit more about your dog there... :applause:
 
Oh, and one other thing, don't forget to commence Fido's SSI. :thumb:

Fido doesn’t need a CI. I will adopt Fido and raise him to be signing. He should be proud of his deaf heritage and embrace it freely.
 
The vet I had with Pepper (my BT I had) said that when dogs get older, they have problems with their vision and hearing, just like older humans who needed glasses and hearing aids. :) For a couple of years before she passed away at age 13, Pepper had hearing problems due to older age.
 
My dog went deaf for less than two weeks due to bad yeast infection in her ears when she was 13 years old. After gave her antibontic (sp?) prescription from vet to kill infection. She can hear again after infection was gone.
 
My dog Mac is going blind and deaf. He have cataracts. dr check on his ears but it look clean and said its cuz of his age. He still can hear a little but not whole much as he used to. he will be 13 on nov 14th..even tho he cant see good and cant hear well but he can feel vibrations.. he will bark and let me know if someone is at the door cuz people banged on door all times hard!? lol.. oh yeah he was my deaf dog.. but is now just a companion. :)
 
My dog that died in 1998 at the age of 18 was deaf and blind. She grew up fine til she got older and became deaf and blind. Sometime we would try to talk to her but she cant hear us, also she would bump into things in the house because she cant see them.

The dog I have now, Kiki, she is 12 to 13 years old, and she is starting to go deaf and blind as well. I could tell because she just doesnt act the way she use to do. Sometime when i yell for her name from another room (for treats) she would not hear us and we have to go and get her now. Also she if in same room, when say her name she would not perk up like she used to. so we knew she was going deaf. for the blind part, well i just have a feeling she is not seeing as well as she used to do.

That sucks eh.

for the cats, well Milly is 10 yrs old, and she is grumpy and a miserable cat!. Other cats are fine, Spooky is slightly older than Milly and she is fine no problem. My other two cats, well they are not old enough yet, as one is 6 and another is 14 weeks. I guess it depends on individual.
 
How did you know that your dog is deaf?? I just a curious that is all. Do you have your dog picture?? One of my friend has a dog deaf from Maui. :D
 
he used to be able to hear anything like cats scratch at the doors, cars go by, kids yelling and all that.. even lightning cracked.. he doesnt hear that now? but when he feel the boom of lightning he will run and bark bark.. whined and tell me there is danger nearby. he still can hear as i will yell and he will turn and walked to me.. but when i call him in my normal voice he cant hear me? grrrr.. oh well.. once mac heard a stranger tryin to get in my back door and he was going crazy.. bark bark .. i was in shower and i was like what? thought someone is at the door so i got out and went to door but no one there? mac kept barking.. but at back door.. i was like oh no.. running and turn the light off and look out the window and saw the black guy.. i was like oh shyt.. i didnt know who it was? i ran and dialed 911 on tty in dark and told them there is a black man at the door.. mac kept barking .. lol.. by the time cops got here.. they saw the black guy and tried to chase that guy but he disappeared. dang.. mac was a good hearing dog but not anymore.. he is just simply my companion.. following me everywhere.. since he cant see me well but he will seek me by following my smell and he will find me! :) Smart dog hehe..

My dog, Ruby, is going deaf due to old age. She already knows some signs. I'm not making a big thing out of her going deaf.
