My Cousin is going to IRAQ in 2 weeks

I just found out my baby cousin decided to join up as contractor with ARMY and is assigned to leave in two weeks for deployment to IRAQ for a yr. for 86,000 a yr tax free.

My aunt is in a big mess. I don't know if he is stupid or not but he makes his own decision since he is only 30, he will leave his wife and 6 yr old son.

He is gonna risk his life, oh brother..... :ugh2:

I do know some of military here where I worked. They are deployed to Iraq for six months to a year. They are emotional and worried about never come back here to seeing their families. It is scary !

Yes, I know it's scary condition because I work for US army caserne and often saw how solider's impression faces are when they annonced that they have to leave Germany. :(

All what they said is worried about their families's safety and future when they are around.

I would not join army because of that tax free. Anyway, he's an adult and know what he do.

Your cousin is my though and prayer.
 
Yeah. he just called and asked me for some info for his passport since his mom won't help. sheesh. he is scared but ready to go. okay. whatsoever.
 
(sigh) can you blame your aunt?? she is upset and frightened that she might never see him again... as he is her baby.. SINCE he decided to RISK HIS LIFE FOR A TAX FREE JOB IN IRAQ... (SIGH)
 
Yeah I know. I am not sure if he is that dumb enuff that he is acutally going. He has learning disablities... but he will be based on Army base only, not going outside of the base. he will be fixing big trucks and humvees....mechanic I would say.
 
Sweet. Those are the best jobs.

Since the military won't pay to train and retain someone cheap to do their job, they have to pay A TON more, TAX FREE, with HAZARD PAY, to contractors like this.

As much as I hate the War on Terrorism, I would so snap up a job like this if I was single and free. Travel, see the world, get to make a ton of money, just for a little inconvenience like being shot at and probably sleeping in uncomfortable areas. Hmmm. Good deal! :cool:

I have a few friends in Afghanistan (oops, one just got transferred to Iraq, eek) doing this. They're coming back in a year or two to pay off their house, get married in extravagant weddings, and basically have a huge bank account already while settling down. What do you think?
 
wow!!! i uddy how his mom feeling abt that and she dont wanna lose son if it happen to him.. wow!!! i cant believe that he take his risk without tax free.. if i were him, hell no i wont!
 
Dowing, I understand how his mom feels about it. My cousin who was based in Marine in Japan and went to Iraq long ago and had been there since but he and his family just moved back here in the USA last Jan 15th. Hope he wont stay there long and hope it will makes him realize to come back home. Keep think postive.

Assuming that any soldiers will survive through this useless war without having any kind of conditions.

downing, I sincerely hope that your cousin will be okay somehow.
 
You see,,,The President even wants the citenzens to fight, Now im for this war and im against the way bush decides to fight the old fashoin way. If anything happens to george bush i gurantee you dick cheney would send the boys home and give arabs and al queda fair warning if anything happens to our soil chemcial weapons attack or any kind attack he will use the nukes and start bombing the middle east.

Can u show some more respect? I would feel sad when someone goes to war, anyone who's my good friend or in my family. It has nothing to do with off topic thread u posted, it has to do something with supporting the orgin post of the thread.

By the way, Downing I do hope for the best for ur cousin in the war and be back in one piece. :) I would be glad if he came back in one piece, otherwise there is no choice when someone is forced to go to war.

Of course we all want safety for Dowining's cousin. But just to be clear, he was not forced to go to Iraq. He is a civilian contract worker who wants to work there because of the good money. He is not a soldier.

Ah ok, all right. It seems that lot of people today looking for money to support their family and their future. Tho, hope his/her cousin will stay and not go there since it's not forced as u said. :) It's pretty dangerous to go anywhere in Iraq at this point.

Sorry to hear about this difficult situation.
U mentioned that he has learning disabilities (LD)...
how do u know if he has LD or what kind
of LD ? I wonder if LD is the reason he seeks to go
Iraq something like a golden opportunity for him
to make money ? Reason I ask you this:
one of my relatives has LD he's very intelligent
with LD mean very limited opportunities for him to
make a living on his own due to his LD. Many People
thought he's dumb, but in fact very few people
knew that he's very intelligent and creative
who happen to mis-lead many people
making up his own mind with decisions, etc...
 
My cousin used to be in army for few yrs. He just only have learning disabilities only in reading..sorta like dxlyesia (sp?) and army asked him if he wanted to come back, so he decided to go back as an contractor. He is based in Georgia.
 
I am sorry to hear about your cousin going to Iraq.
My sister is trying to get out of the military...
but Bush is making her stay a little longer, in case
he needs her.
