I am currently a student studying at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. My hope is to develop an educational program to teach the basics of music including rhythm, pitch, and composition. Eventually I would also like to use it as a platform to teach people who can not hear, how to sing in tune, creating a strong sense of vocal control.

If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear from you!

Why? We aren't going to enjoy this ability.

I hope I didn't offend you. From my understanding there is a wide range of hearing loss when it comes to being deaf. The basic idea is that, that the program will be able to adjust to each person's needs (based off of noise level, upper, mid and low tones). People with cochlear, and depending on their range of hearing can use common noises to construct "music" as a form of expression and creativity.

I agree. Hearing loss is wide ranging. Being a ragtime pianist and person born with a hearing loss there are deaf and hard of hearing people who can and do have the ability to understand rhythm, pitch, and composition, and more importantly enjoy their own music making. I hear all octaves on my piano.

I think the problem here is that you said, "teach people who can not hear." Exactly what does that mean? Are you meaning to say people who cannot hear like hearing people or in general people who are deaf and cannot benefit from hearing any sound?

Deaf mean a person can not hear period.

Not so.

I consider myself as a deaf person. I also consider myself as a hard of hearing person. And I can hear but I don't hear equally like a hearing person, mind you, but I can hear nonetheless. The term "deaf" does not necessarily mean one cannot hear at all. A deaf person can and do enjoy music. There are deaf people who are musicians who can carry a beat, have rhythm, perform the right pitch and so on.

I did not say they could not enjoy music. I lived with a couple of deaf people and they could not hear but the could feel the music and would play it very loud . I could not stand it. I saw a doctor to see if I could get a implant years ago. And the doctor told me I could end losing the hearing I do have. He said he would do if I was deaf as deaf people do not have any hearing. I am hoh .

The term "deaf" is subjective. As a deaf person myself I do have hearing. I'm also hoh, too. There are deaf people who can and do hear. Hearing technology plays a large role in making this happen.

Yes that is true but it the technology that helping the person hear, take that away and they're deaf. I do not like it when people say I am deaf in my condo because I live on the first floor as people above me think they can be as noisy as they want to . The person that the own the unit over me rent her out and she has to being telling people I am deaf as they had gotten so loud my unit shake.

I can still use the telephone and hear music without my hearing aid and I still see myself as deaf or hard of hearing. Deaf people can and do wear hearing aids. Deaf does not mean unable to hear anything at all. There are gradation of hearing loss and the subjective matter of how one calls him/herself as.

She is a percussionist, not a singer.

Music isn't just vocals, it isn't about just trying to rip off Whitney Houston or anything, but the composition and instrumentation is very important and not beyond anyone with a working brain, regardless of their ability to hear or not.

my daughter who Downs going to be doing music i gather more to it than just turning out a tune,it works on different levels even maths
