Hi

I have cerebral palsy and hearing issuses and understanding noise issuses.

My audograms come back completely diffent every time. And my audi has now said after one audio processing test that my results ment he retested with another audi and they said I was unable to test.

I was found to have apd and gaven hearing aids I move towns and then told by the new audi that no I dont have it confirmed and I need to spend $240  on a test that I cant even do. But yet in my old town the natonal health system gave me aids. All childrens aids are delt with by the same deaf school doesnt matter what town you are living in.

And now are sending me to have an MRI because hearing is untestable. Why? Are they look for that conditon that is fixed with a CI.(Please no).:iolol:

I have heard 2 diffent answers to why I have apd
1) due to cerebral palsy
2) that I have cerebral palsy and apd

Has anyone ever been send for an MRI instend of or as well as a hearing in the discovering part of your Deaf jouney?

I don't think your audi is pushing you to have a CI. CIs are meant for sensorineural hearing loss -- not APD.

They could be looking for an acoustic neuroma, a tumor. This is a tumor that grows and it can damage one's hearing.

Hope this helps.

Ok 2 years on from the original referral (I dont make the appointment)I have asked to re referred to the ENT and I plan to make the new appointment

MRI is the best way to check for abnormalities without cutting you open. If you really want to know what is going on inside your ears, get the MRI. I've had it a few times, it is no big deal. Just have to sit there and don't move for a few minutes.

Thanks that make me feel better

I had to have an MRI also, they just want to make sure there is nothing really serious going on such as tumors and so on. It will be ok :)

I know you said your CP is due to a series of strokes. MRI may find dead spots in the brain that might be close to speech perception centers and causing a lot of your problems.

They probably couldn't do anything, but at least you will know why. :)

I realise the original poster was a long time ago, but for anyone else going for an MRI, if you have spastic-type CP or other condition that results in uncontrolled movement discuss with the scan clinic in plenty of time before the appointment so they can give you something to stop you thrashing around during the MRI! Only ever had them on my lower body and brain in the past, annoyingly the brain one didn't have the right angle for them to look at my ears at the same time so I need to go again if I want a picture of my cochlears. Not sure it's worth it for what we'd learn, that I shouldn't get a bang on the head (I try to avoid that anyway!!) and I shouldn't fly (not practical) so in many senses it's just to satisfy curiosity.

Im Op thanks for the tip

ok got an email from my audi here is some of it

the ENT specialist at the hospital and he has said to send a referral letter to him and he will take it from there. If you need to find out more about the MRI you can contact ent specialist at the hospital, but give it a little while for the referral to get to him and for him to assess it.

progress i guess

I'm sorry that you have to wait so long. I guess getting an appointment is progress, though.
