Mononucleosis!

I have not been tested for it. Like you said majority of adults have been exposed to the virus already. And developed antibodies.

I did ask the doctor that. He said no need for a blood due to I probably been exposed to it. And if not, I have with my daughter. Since she likes to steal sips of my coffee or soda. On the way to school.

So that is why the doctors allowed her back to school.

Yeppers...she is no longer contagious. And I agree with your doctor...the expense of a blood test is really unnecesary. Either you have antibodies, or you were already exposed before your daughter was diagnosed, so the blood test really serves no purpose except to confirm one or the other. I just thought if you were concerned about exposure, it could help to relieve your worries. I should have known you would approach it from a logical standpoint!:giggle:

Well so far my daughter been sick for about two weeks now. The incubation period pretty much passed. The rest of the family should be cleared. Pretty much.

I just thought she was still contagious. but we should all be safe now. Since her contagious period was more than likely over two weeks ago.

aww, this is new to me... Is it similar as tonsil?

I feel you because it's pain to see your own child suffer... :( but I'm glad that your daughter is okay.

No, It is not as similar as to tonsil. It is entirely different.

Mono is a viral illness that basically attacks your immune system which causes you to feel tired almost all the time. You can check this out - Mononucleosis - Mono - Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment on WebMD

It is usually common in teenagers and young adults. I've had mono twice when I was 16. It wasn't fun. Normally, a mono will happen once but when someone has it twice, it is rare but yes it is possible.

Babyblue - I hope your daughter will get better soon and plenty of rest as well.

Twice!! Wow. That is almost unheard of.

How long did it take for you to recover from each episode?

Doctor said 6 to 8 weeks for my daughter but sometimes it can take months for the spleen to return to normal size.

The first episode took much longer. It took me about nearly 3 months to be fully recovered from it.

The 2nd episode was a bit shorter. It only took me a month to get recovered from it. The reason it took much shorter is because the immune system does put up some kind of response. Some people just have immune systems that don't quite establish complete immunity the first time.

Yes, it can take months for the spleen to return to the normal size. In my case, the doctor had to keep a very close eye on it since I had it twice.

I got tested for mono 2 days ago and tested negative thank god! I have competition in 3 weeks in the states and if i tested positive I would have been devastated..i still would have competed just wouldn't have done any stunts to avoid the contact part. I upped my vitamins cuz ive been getting sick alot and i still have a awful sore throat and constantly tired...but they said it wasn't mono...so ya. Hope your daughter feels better!

Babyblue, I am sorry to hear about your daughter's illness but I hope she feel better soon and plenty of rest!

I had a mono when I was 22 years old. My boyfriend and I were kissing. The 3 days later, I became ill and tired almost all the time. It was not fun. I called for an appointment. The doctor's office said come in now. Off I went. They examined me and said I came down with the mono. I asked the doctor a lot of questions regarding mono. She said that I probably got the kissing disease from my boyfriend and that he had a cold, etc. (I told her that. My boyfriend didn't tell me that... GRRRRRR..) Also, the doctor advised me that I'd recover 3 months. She wanted me to eat healthy foods, rest a lot, no stress, etc. (She puts me on antibodies.)

Hey Babyblue-

I am sorry about your daughter being sick and everything... I believe that you are a great mom she ever had. I hope she feel better as well. :)

Thanks for the support guys!!

Alicia... I am so glad you don't have it. Because even if you did go to the competitions, You would not be yourself. It really makes you fatigue! I picked my daughter up from school early again. The school nurse called me again today. Took my daughter home and she feel asleep on the couch.

*sigh*
