I have some difficult with my modem for my AOL software, It is not searching for modem device or the message would say my AOL connection been lost because not picking up connection from the modem when I checked to see if my modem was working and it shown that it is working. Should I purchase a new modem and what type of modem should I purchase at Circuit City for XP windows?

Hmm, im not very good at reading ASL,

im assuming you mean your modem works fine, but AOL software will not detect it?

if thats the case, do not buy a new modem, you do not need a new one.

if you go to START>RUN> and type in CMD, and then type in " PING 127.0.0.1 " and if it says reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms, blah blah, then your modem works fine.

its your AOL software , you can either uninstall and then re-install it or you can look for updates for the software

try different phone numbers for AOL mabye?

ASL? What do you mean by that? eh?

I did uninstalled and then re-installed AOL with a disk and signed on and sometimes I can get on line longer sometimes I get booted off, I guess you would have to have AOL to understand..

My modem is working just fine because I contracted the tech. dept. with AOL and done a step by step checking my modem and he stated that it should be something wrong with the software modem and suggested me to purshase one at a store, a 56k Modem.

It could be the connection to AOL. Try choosing a different local number. I had a similar problem once. I would get online, but get disconnected later. I then changed the local AOL number and it improved. ;)

Buy a Cable Modem, if u cant afford to pay cable modem every month.. try Verizon DSL. :type:

DSL would be good idea but still use phone line and connection manager softwares. I have little problems with that DSL internet. I was ex-Yahoo! DSL. Go with cable if you afford it.

Cheri, I familar with this issues which I had before like once or twice in 3 to 4 years.. I had expreinces with AOL's various issues I could resolve since 1997... its easy.. not hard.. smile... I ask you some questions.. Did you unintall and intall old modem from computer? If you did.. Then click on aol on toolbar >> AOL System infomation, it would be appeal as dailog in front of monitor.. You see tabs>>Unities, see AOL Adapter >> click Rebuild AOL Adapter..It will remove adapter. AOL will do add new adapter itself.. Trust me.. I hope this instruction help and resolve for you..

in other words, You better check cord or plug as make sure.. if It's damage or loose, you need replacment it asap...

Yes, I know that AOL is definitely sucker!

I changed from AOL after learn for 2 weeks to other internet company. I join telecom and let it DSL connection.

I'm happy with DSL because I can use phone/fax machine and internet on the same time. I use DSL with unlimited.

My son chat with his friend on the phone while I was still on the online. It's good. DSL is the best and download quick.

That's what I suggest Cheri to try DSL connection.

Hmmmm, Cheri, maybe I missed a point here and there but maybe you should wait & save your money/hassle of getting a new modem until after the phone company does their checking cuz maybe it is something to do with faulty phone company wiring and/or connections. Wait till after they say your phone wiring is alright before getting that new modem??

That's right, could be a local problem. Here in town, one area would get disconnection frustrations while another won't. I had that problem some time back...I got fed up with disconnections with the Juno server, so I went and bought a new computer.
The problem still persisted and I came awfully close to joining the monks in Tibet.

Cheri I think you should get rid of AOL and get DSL Unlimited like Liebling:))) recommend. AOL gives a lot of problems to me before and charged me 200 bucks just to cancle. Just looking out for you. :)
