My son Danny had a bicycle accident yesterday. His right hand (5th MCP joint) are fractured and few scratch on knee to leg... They put plaster on his right hand to end of elbow... (Thank God it´s not head, but hand)!

An exactly 5th MCP joint!

It´s coincidence, Alan & I went to store to buy foods to prepare for Alan´s birthday... We saw Danny & his group "bicycle club" stop at store for a break and drink... They saw us and waved us and then ride off... We went in... Approx 5 minutes later one of Danny´s mates came to us and told me that Danny had a accident... Someone call an amlubance... We were there until ambulance men took him to clinic. We thought hand and knee are fractured... It´s just hand, not knee...

Danny and his mates made "bicycle club" since Easter school holiday... They ride 10 to 15 km around all the day everyday.. After Easter school holiday over, they ride at weekends until happened yesterday. He did not see hydrant as he talked to his mate and suddenly saw hydrant but it´s too late to brake to stop.... He fall over... mmmhhh I told Danny off to not talk with his mates while he is STILL riding the bicycle... It´s same with car when you driving... No talk... It´s cute to see Danny´s little brother Alan told Danny off for not talk....

(Alan and 4th graders took 30 minutes bicycle school with at police´s playground everyday since last week. It´s 14 day bicycle course. Police show them how/what to ride, traffic, etc. If Alan pass bicycle test then he can ride anywhere... If failed then he use at playground where no traffic around.)

Doctor showed me Danny´s X-Ray yesterday and said to me that he want to exam Danny´s 5th MCP again next day (today) and check either his hand need to operate or not. I rejected it and told him that it´s not necassary to operate little bone fractured. Danny asked me why I reject an operation. I explained him that his bone fractured is too little... they can leave plastic on his arm for 6 weeks until it heal itself. ... A big bone fractured is a different story. I remind him about my ankle fracture in 2000 without operation... He remember and understood.

Danny is upset because he was excited when he learn that he passed test at
School of Economics & Business last Thursday that he can make 3 days Exam tomorrow (Monday to Wednesday). He is looking forward to this... Now??? His hand... :( The doctor said that they can postpone his Exam until his hand is healing. All what I do is give doctor´s certifcate to Principal of Economics & business School tomorrow and make a new appointment for Danny. If Danny passed his Examination, he will go School of Economics & Business this September after Summer school holiday.

I told my hubby about this as I came home from hospitail with Danny & Alan. My hubby rejected it as well... He drove to hospitail with my both sons today and want to see X-Ray himself and see what the doctor react after exam Danny´s hand... (I´m here alone to typing this post and then prepare the party for Alan´s birthday today).

*sigh* it´s his third time, he has bone fractured... Thank God, it´s not head but hand....

Oh my. Sound like Danny is a typical boy and get into accident prone. for your son for me. Thanks

That's neat! Ive never seen or heard about bicycle course...When I was growing up, there were no bicycle course...

You are RIGHT! I agree with you that it isn't necessarily for surgery at all...I had my thumb broke and wore cast when I was young...

Doctor is just want $$$$$$$

So, Danny can't write with his right hand? Ive seen people write while they have cast or plastic on...

AWW..sounds like your hubby doesn't trust with your decision...:dunno: or just want to make sure if you not misunderstood what the doctor says..:dunno: Is your hubby deaf or hearing? If he is hearing, that explains it! MEN!

Update

I was busy to prepare the foods etc for Alan´s birthday...

My hubby, Danny & Alan drove to clinic today because the doctor said he want to check Danny´s hand again.

My hubby look at X-Ray and agreed that it´s not necassary to have an operation. Doctor examed Danny´s hand and recommended my hubby to have an operation because it heal quickly after an operation then Danny can have sports etc.... Without operation, heal around 6 to 8 weeks time with no sports. (My hubby & I already talked about this before he left... - we agree to leave plaster on Danny for long months until healing without an operation).

Yes they have bicycle course with police at 4th Grade. Here in Germany are very common to have bicycles around... that´s why the kids are teaching how to obey traffic law when they use bicycles.

My wrist (stairs accident) and arm eblow (bicycle accident) was fractured without operation at long time ago. No Doctors recommend to have an operation on wrist or elbowe... My ankle (stairs accident) was fractured in 2000... I was like  when the doctor recommended me to have an operation on my ankle... I said no... Leave plaster for 2 months until healed.

Doctor is just want $$$$$$$

Yes I noticed it... If huge bone fractured is understandable but little... :ugh2:

Yes around 3 to 4 weeks after accident... but Danny just had an accident yesterday... Monday exam... impossible... Wait and see what the principal says. I will update tomorrow...

 Of course my hubby beleive me and was like *sigh* over doctor´s recommendation because he remembered the happend to me and my ankle fractured in 2000. I would not make decision alone without him but share discussion with him to agreement and disagreement because he is father of my sons... My hubby want to see it, is his right. I has no time to accompany Danny to clinic today because of party preparation for Alan. My hubby went alone with kids to clinic without me today. Doctor knows my decision yesterday and now doctor accepted my hubby´s decision for not have an operation.

My hubby is deaf and oral. He can sign but he was raised oral...

oh okay,,you are right...hubby and wife are supposed to make decision together...:D

WOW! I hope you made a right decision. I don't think surgery is really necassary! Unless if it is REAL serious, I would go for it...but you said it is just small broken bones..he should be fine in the cast for 6-8 weeks. (I broke my wrist when I was like around 7 or 8 and had cast on for 8 weeks). I hope he's allright. Accdients does happen!

Wow, hope your son is speed recovery soon. Dont let it happen to him again.

oh boy, glad its not harm any to his brain. Hope he get speedy recovery. make sure he better be carefully

wow.. good thing that not his head.. whew! so i hope everything will be smooth okay..

Aww Liebling, I'm truly sorry to hear about Danny's bike accidents, I hate when one of our children get hurts, I do hope he's feels better and that everything will turn out good at the end....

Give him a hug for me

My littlest is accident prone too.
She scares me sometimes ...she such a lil speed devil

oh no, your son got hurt again! I hope he should be more careful next time, if he really cares about safety.

Glad to hear that he will be ok and be healed in no time. tell him to be careful! :D

*whew* I'm glad your son is alright... not head!

Which it's good thing btw hand is okay as long takes wear on plastic cast for 6 to 8 wks.. Isn't bad.. will come fast anyway.

You did right thing and not necessary to have an operation.

Boys always may come lead into clumbsy as same my children.

Children thinks "want fun" then oppise Accidently end it up... Oh boyee... (chuckles)
I'm glad your son is ALRIGHT.. good thing!
*hugs*

Sometimes children require surgery for broken bones because their bodies are still growing. Adults don't have that same problem. Each person's situation is different.

Liebling, sorry about your son's bike accident. Hope he get well soon. :) BTW, I was about 7, I had elbow joint fractured due to flip hit the cement sidewalk. A doctor had required me to have my elbow surgery because my joint was damaged and had a metal in it. It leaves for life. My right hand (near 5th MCP joint) is crooked that can't repair itself without operation ( I think it related to my elbow joint at same time).

With your situation is understandable because of severe fractured and need to repair with metal but my son's 5th MCP is only little fractured... Exactly link, I provided in my first thread...
