COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Shasta Groene, whose mother, oldest brother and mother's boyfriend were bludgeoned to death at their home outside this mountain town six weeks ago, was discovered alive early Saturday morning by a waitress at a local Denny's restaurant.

The 8-year-old girl and her brother Dylan, 9, were missing from the murder scene and an Amber Alert was issued for them May 17, the morning after the killings.

Cheryl Morgan, the siblings' grandmother, told FOX News that Dylan had also been found alive at a house in the area after Shasta told authorities the location.

But at a press conference held at noon EDT, Kootenai County Sheriff's Department Capt. Ben Wolfinger disavowed that and said Dylan Groene had not been found.

Taken into custody at the Denny's restaurant was Joseph Edward Duncan III, 42, of Fargo, N.D.

Duncan has a long record of sexual offences. He arrested in Becker County, Minn., in April for allegedly molesting a 7-year-old boy the previous July, and served 14 years in prison for raping at 14-year-old boy in Washington state in 1980, when Duncan himself was only 16.

This is so sad! Glad the girl and brother were found safe! I hope they will have to go counseling soon for their emotional.

Im not suprised Duncan did crime again...once they are pedophile..they will never change.

I believe the girl was found safe, but as of yet, it looks like the boy is still missing. :( I hope they find the boy soon.

During the last press conference (2 pm EST), the sheriff said that they think the boy might be dead. :(

They announced his website, www.fifthnail.com on TV, but it has already been shut down. I found the blog site by doing a little searching. I'm sure the authorities have found it, too. I expect it to close soon, too.

Why, oh why, was this "man" let loose to do these awful crimes?! :mad:

According to a pundit on CNN, he slipped the cracks. Apparently, he's a registered sex offender. That is registered in the surrounding states around Idaho, but not Idaho itself. Therefore, he was allowed to do all this undetected. But, I'm bothered by something. I don't think he is the only one involved in all this. Remember, the girl's oldest sibling, her Mother, and the Mother's boyfriend, were all found bludgeoned to death. It was after the murders, that the younger children came up missing. So, there's a lot going on here. I think when all is said in done, we're going to have multiple arrests, and we might find out that the kidnapping of the kids was opportunistic.

Regardless, this is really disturbing. I really hope that they find the boy. I don't hold out hope that he's alive, but at least, I hope they find him. Then, I hope they prosecute the creeps that did all this.

This is so sick.

I hope the girl go seek professional help, cause
if she doesn't go now, she'll go crazy.

God bless Shasta, I hope the boy is alive, too.

That's not what is going on here, Steve. It's not the judges. It's the LAW. A judge can only do so much with a faulty law. This guy, Duncan, wasn't registered as a sex offender in Idaho. That is the issue here. It has nothing to do with Dacshle, Tom Delay, or even the judges. It's the the loop holes in the laws that are already on the books that's the problem. Doing away with Daschle won't do diddly in this situation. You have to close these loop holes.

What is being talked about by the pundits is a national registry to track these individuals. Florida has a law that was just recently passed that says every sex offender that is registered must be tracked. This is so that a known sex offender in one state can't meander off to another state where they aren't regsitered and commit a crime. This is what we need to see happen.

Look at how deputies arent doing a good job in florida protecting teens from sex offenders. And they do something stupid like cuffing 5 year olds at school. Plus the arrest 3 boys who was defending himself against a bus driver who was beating up a defensless boy. See in maryland county police would handle it differantly. You know why cause THEY HAVE A BOSS!!! And The Boss is county excutive or the the mayor. If Police arrest the boys instead the bus driver in maryland the county excutive would call the chief in his office yell at him to pressure him to fire the officers.See the sheriff can not be fired.He can only be voted out by the voters. Thats the big differance in florida and in maryland.
