Misquoting Jesus

Jesus was just a loveable hippy that wanted free love and ate psychedelic mushrooms -- although I may be thinking more of Mario with the last part but hey!

:laugh2: I tend to agree with you on that one!

This book, "Misquoting Jesus" is one of the best books on the authencity of the Bible. Bart Ehrman, the author, was a fundamentalist Christian turned into agnostic, and he explains how the NT was often edited to suit their cultural beliefs. Also, remember, he was also a Biblical scholar and knows more about the Bible than you all do.

For example, the part when a woman was stoned for adultry and Jesus said, "Go sin no more" was NEVER found in any of the original manuscripts. It was added much later.

It is an important book for those who think the Bible is PURE and UNALTERED. His book proves beyond reasonable doubt that there were some edits through translations.

Well I disagree... If Bart was Biblical Christian, he would have have chosen the Gnostic path. How do you know he was a scholar and determined that he knows more about the Bible than any of us do (well maybe most of us!). He might have believed the doctrines created by men, not the Bible.

The Dead Sea scrolls have supported the Bible so far! A few errors, like forgetting to cross the "t"s and dotting the "i"s have been revealed but the meaning remain the same as the original. Words have changed but not the meaning. I do not know if you understand this but I have a few scholars backing this.

It's not an opinion, it's a fact that some text has been altered.

It's not an opinion that there were several books regarding Jesus in the second century and they were destroyed. It happened.

The Dead Sea Scroll and the Gospel of Judas shows that they clearly had a lot of stories about Jesus.

The Church was going through turmoil with different Christian groups and they had different ideas of who Jesus was. The Church decided to destroy some of the books because it just didn't like them.

Are you sure you know why some of the books were destroyed? The last book written was in year 68 AD before the destruction of Jerusalem and when the Quarran caverns were filled with the word of God amongest many other letters and stories.

Gospel of Judas was proved not as part of the Canon because it was written much later than when Judas was alive.

Have you ever thought that the books might have been destroyed because of its fraudulet? Did that author Ehrmann believe in the fraud Bible with so many ommissions in them?

Canon - a collection of books that has evidence of support from ancient Christians. That is why we have the 66 books of the Bible today because each of the books were quoted and mentioned by early Christians (27 AD to 200 AD).

So the other books that were not in Canon, where supposed as "uninspired by God" meaning - written by men without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Those books have conflicts and even conflicts within itself.

I'm with netrox on this one. He knows what he's talking about. It's not an opinion, it's a pure fact right to the core.

Got any evidence to back up your belief that you know for sure that Netrox knows what he is talking about? Does he have facts to back him up? I have not seen any so far...

Can you prove that you have facts in your hand rather than opinion in ur mind?

If I agree with Netrox, then I must burn all the Bibles, including the Bibles Netrox believes in because those Bibles Netrox believes in, has serious contradictions within itself.

Did you know that Islam teaches that Jesus was married and had a child?

:o

Can you tell me the book and verse from that Islam book?

How well you know Islam book?

Are you pulling from a verse rather than reading the whole context?

Perhaps, Islam is more open-minded? ;)

You just revealed how much you know!

U think that Islam allow women to write a book and put in Islamic book? Maybe you can go to Iran, or Iraq and tell them that you believe a woman wrote somehting in their holy writing... see what happens.. come back and tell us.
