Minnesota teen couple's romantic flight to Texas comes to an end
Two days on the run - only to come back home on their own.
Two 14-year-old runaways who had stolen a truck and eluded police since Wednesday returned home this afternoon, the Pine County Sheriff's Department reported.
The two teens, who are from the Hinckley area, took off Wednesday morning in a stolen SUV intending to drive to Texas to get married.
The couple made it as far as northern Iowa before running out of gas, money and nerve. They turned around and made it as far as the Rochester area before once again running out of gas. Pine County Sheriff Mark Mansavage said they got help from a church group, which filled their tank, gave them food and helped them on their way.
Mansavage said the couple left Olmstead County about 9:30 a.m. and the girl, Miranda Wilson, was dropped off at home about 2:30 p.m. Friday. Her boyfriend, Matt Reynolds, drove to his parents home in Hinckley and arrived about 3 p.m. Waiting for him were Pine County Sheriff's deputies who took him into custody for stealing the vehichle.
"They're good, just tired," Mansavage said.
The boy and girl were the target of a multi-state search after stealing the SUV Wednesday morning. Authorities believed the two were on their own.
