Miller Free Rides marks 20 years tonight

New Year's Eve revelers can also toast an anniversary tonight and celebrate 20 years of free rides on Milwaukee County buses, sponsored by Miller Brewing Company.

The Miller Free Rides have kept more than a half million cars off the road and given drinkers a safe and sober ride home, according to Casey Perry, executive director of the Wisconsin Troopers' Association, one of the program sponsors.

"We are pleased to support this program and encourage everyone to make riding the bus, designating a driver or using another alternative transportation method part of their New Year's Eve plans," Perry said.

The free bus service on Milwaukee county routes starts at 8 p.m. and runs until the end of regular service for the night. Buses on 13 routes will run until 4 a.m.

In Waukesha, free bus rides will be offered on 10 metro routes from 7 p.m. to about 3:30 a.m.

that is good to know I wish my neighbors lived there instead of doing donuts in our back yard after a night of drinking!
 
I find that if I just simply walk across my yard to the neighbors garage and have him turn on the Juke box,,,,,,,,,,I can drink as much as I want and then just walk back across the yard and go pass out. NO CARS INVOLVED!!! :giggle: :giggle:
 
My city, Vancouver (Washington) did that few years ago, but I don't know if they are still doing it because some of their bus are open till 12 am now so..

I grew up in Milwaukee. Miller Brewing Company provided free city bus rides on New Year's Day and also on St. Patrick's Day for many years. Nothing new.
 
Wouldn't it be nice if it was 50 million?! But hey, 50,000 is great and what they are doing (or did) is splendid and awesome! Hopefully more and more communities will follow through with this type of service.


To the poster who mentioned passing out in back-yard, hopefully there won't be a neighbor dog running around and welllllll.......wake up wet and smelly. :eek3: Eww...scratch the thought folks! :whistle:

It isn't really new...... a lot of cities and counties provide free services from a taxi to get people home safely on major "drinking holidays. It is only a one time fare so use it wisely and go home....
