My dog has died this A.M. The vet said it was Milk Fever. Not enough calcium in her body.

She started twitching, and could not walk around 345 am. I put her on my bed and petted her. She died a short time later. With in minutes she started convulsing. I did not know what to do. I just cried. and By the time we got the vet on the phone, she died.

Canine Eclampsia

So now I am hand raising the pups. Took them to the vet to make sure they were O.K.

We bought Formula from the vet and some soft puppy food. Since they are four weeks old this Sat. The vet said they should be fine.

Just have to work with them.

I am extremely sad, and sick to my stomach, right now.

Awww I am sorry of your loss! :( She will always in your heart. How are the puppies so far?

babyblue, I am sorry for you dog...I understand you feeling really your love dog :(

Tugs at my heart strings! Ur dog left you her babies, and hopefully, they will survive! Being a dog lover, this makes me actually cry! My dog, Buffy, died of breast cancer, and it devasated me! Was in a deep depression for a very long, long time. Finally, I was able to find another dog,"Anita" for a companion, but will always remmy "Buffy"!...And my other dogs also: "Blossom", "Sweetheart", and "Daisey Mae." Rest in peace!

Thanks for the hug, I needed that. :aw:

Puppies are doing good.. Took them to the Vet this AM. They all been checked. Healthy as can be.
I have to take them back in two weeks, when they are 6 weeks old to get their shots and de-worming.

Bought some canned foods and formula from the vet. They told me to mix the food with the formula and let them eat.

They are eating wonderfully!

To respond to all other post.

Thanks for the support. I just can not get over how quick it happened. She was fine before we went to bed. Then....It all went wrong.

It does hit hard. I am totally heartbroken. So I do understand how you feel when "Buffy" passed. :tears:

I am glad that the puppies are doing well and eating well. Pretty soon you'll switch to dry food with little water to soft it up. My dog's puppies didn't like them so I just put dry food in bowl and they chomped just fine! :) Test in small amount. Wait till they are 6 weeks old to try. :) Picture of puppies? I bet they got bigger!

They are fat and healthy as they can be. They were vet checked today due to the death of their mother. I was scared that it was something contagious. But came down to "Milk Fever" Only,, if I knew of it before. I have never heard of it til today.

They are teething now. I have felt a few in a couple of their mouths.

Vet said to mix the puppy food with the formula to make it soft. :)

I will take pictures later tonight or tmw.

and post them.

I am so sorry about your dog.

They look very good. I once raised a puppy by hand on formula from 2 weeks old and she did well.

Hope you can keep one of her puppies so you still have a little part of her.

I have considered that. But I do not know if I want to do that. Due to I still have the father of the puppy. He is also a full blooded Chihuahua. But I have not decided yet.

I know one thing. I will for now on have any dogs, I own fixed, For now on.

Sad thing is...After she had her puppies.. I have asked the Vet, over the phone. What kind of food should I feed her. He said Puppy Chow. Since it has more nutrients.

Still was not good enough. She is a small dog. with five puppies. Just wish the vet or someone would have told me about.."milk fever"

Gave me a warning that this "may" happen..

"sigh"

Sorry for being so depressing tonight.. I am not usually like this.

Thanks to the ones that are putting up with me..

Sorry about your loss. :(

My family lost several dogs due to bone cancer, kidney infection, and mouth cancer. :(
