Migraines...
Fuzzy... I will be as brief as possible. From Dr. Balch's book, it says that any number of things can trigger a migraine such as: allergies, constipation, stress, liver malfunction, too much or too little sleep, emotional changes, hormonal changes, sun glare, flashing lights, lack of exercise, and changes in barometric pressure. Dental problems may also be a factor. Low blood sugar is frequently associated with migraine; studies have shown that blood sugar levels are low during a migraine attack, and the lower the blood sugar level, the more severe the headache (becoming worse). Smoking can cause a migraine attack because the nicotine and carbon monoxide cigarette smoke contains does affect the blood vessels -- the nicotine constricts them while the carbon monoxide tends to expand them. Many different food may precipitate an attack. Some of the most common offenders are: chocolate, citrus fruits, alcohol (especially red wine), and any food that is aged, cured, pickled, soured, yeasty, or fermented. Also Dr. Balch suggested that migraine sufferers should omit or remove from their diet: foods that contain the amino acid tyramine , including aged meats, avocados, bananas, beer, cabbage, canned fish, dairy foods, eggplant, hard cheeses, potatoes, raspberries, red plums, tomatoes, wine, and yeast. Also avoid alcoholic beverages, aspirin, monosodium glutamate (MSG), nitrites (preservatives found in hot dogs and luncheon meats), salts and spicy foods. Eat small meals and nutritious snacks between meals if needed to help stabilize wide swings in blood sugar that may precipitate a migraine. Don't miss meals.
Fuzzy, this book has soooo much more including a list of nutrients. I don't have time now and have to leave, sorry, but if you can buy a copy of that book, "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" by Dr. James Balch at your local health food store, I encourage you to do so. I wish you a safe, speedy and complete recovery.
