We had our remembrance of Memorial Day from 11 to 12 PM (Pacific Time) at La Grande, Oregon. There were over 220 flags flying at Grandview Cemetary. Each flag flying on a pole once draped a coffin of a soldier killed while in service. I sat near the front while the chaplain spoke (see photo below) for nearly 40 minutes with stories and honoring the fallen and the living. It was a great speech. I understood him clearly. Also there were the Patriot Guard Riders.
The same cemetery I visited the grave of Jake Reed, a cousin of mine whose son is Jake, who died in 1995 at age 19 from cancer. It was my first time seeing his grave site. My daughters and I roamed the cemetery looking at old marble headstones as old as 1882.
At exactly 12 PM on the nose a jet made a flyover in remembrance of those who died while in service, and honoring veterans alive today.
I thanked a vet today by shaking his hand. It was a beautiful day to pay tribute those who served on making sure that we have our freedom. It was repeated a few times during the chaplain's speech that freedom is never free. Remember that folks.
