Medvedev: We'll Can Missiles if Obama Halts Missile Shield

Yes. That's precisely what Reba, Hear Again, and I are saying. Anti-Missile Shield is a DEFENSE capability - it cannot be used to attack other country but what do you think why Russia STRONGLY does not support this?

Exactly.

Ummmm, missile shields DO have first-strike capability.
If they were "entirely defensive" then I see no problem with Russia building them in Cuba or anywhere else as well. :)
Of course these missile shields are poking Russia in the eye, and they are right to protest.
Obama is a true diplomat and I will wait to see his views on this from himself.

uuhhh... no it doesn't. Just because it's called a "missile" doesn't mean it has capability to have a first-strike capability. "First-Strike Capability" means you can launch preemptive strike on enemy or to have a capability to guide the missiles to the target. Anti-missile Shield does NOT have those capability. It's simply controlled by a radar that will detect the incoming missile and will fire the missile to intercept those "first-strike" missile.

As for Cuban Missiles Crisis - um.... that was not anti-missile shield. It was mobile nuclear missile pointed at USA. Yea I have a big fucking problem with that. You know what's worse? Each Russian nukes can be individually launched without any control from higher office. That means any lone fanatic patriotic soldier can launch the nuke. How scary is that?

so when USA developed a technology that safeguarded the nukes and brought them under unified control (aka Football), they shared it to Russians for free. This means - in order to launch the nuke, you need to turn keys, enter launch codes, etc. Before - it was just one red button that anybody can press in each mobile nuclear missile vehicle.

According to the link:

I hope Obama does NOT back down.

I concur with you. I do not want to see the U.S. become a weaker superpower like Jimmy Carter did in 1976-1980. I prefer to see the U.S. remains as a superpower as long as they need to redefine their foreign policies and change their directions in Iraq War.

You mean that the missile shield system is tinkerproof? No override from radar to manual? In that case, let's allow Cuba to have some installed. And Venezuela, they are worried about their oil being purloined. Heck, let them set up a whole string of missile shields along the Bering Strait. After all, they are "defense missiles," what could go wrong? And during the Cuban Missile Crisis, we had B-52's flying around the world with their bomb bays open. That isn't scary?-when the crew were up for days at a time and coked to the gills with amphebetamines? Come on, get real. This whole thing was a response to the Georgia/Russia war, and even the New York Times admit that Georgia started it by attacking Russia first. I STILL think Obama is too smart to actually go through with this.

What in the name of God is nuclear superiority? We have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world many times over! It reminds me of this cartoon in which there are two men with bows, each with a strung arrow aimed at the other's head. The caption was "The tighter I draw, the safer I am."

Hey y'all! Do you love Russia?? Or you don't like the country and live there? Are you afraid of President Russian?

it's not possible!!! It's not the matter of tweaking just simply because it's a missile. It's ENTIRELY different function! I don't think you understand exactly how anti-missile shield works... What you're saying is exactly like trying to tweak Cessna Plane into a Fighter Jet... a laser pointer into laser-cutting device... NOT POSSIBLE! Please research Anti-Missile Shield technology yourself. Google's got abundant of info.

Beside - lot of countries like Iraq have their own defense system. :dunno: Mind you - Anti-Missile Shield capability is extraordinary difficult and extremely expensive. Only superpower countries can afford it and it's not even perfected yet.

Nuclear Superiority? we're not in that phase anymore. That was Cold War. Old news. This is not about nuclear superiority. It's about having a Trump Card. It only takes 1 nuke to cause a butterfly effect aka Trump Card which is why we're trying hard to prevent "rogue" (or fanatic, extremist, etc) countries like Iran/Syria/North Korea from making one.

Sure I like Russia. It's extremely rich with culture and knowledge. I want to visit Moscow and other areas someday. And no I'm not afraid of President of any countries... even Chavez.

Dang, gotta remember that. So...you are saying that the only way the missile shield missiles will fire if only if the radar tells them to? Hmmmm.

No kidding. In a nuclear war it would be like spitting into a raging forest fire.

I can understand that concern, but the Bush administration has a rather less-than illustrious record of telling the truth. And you don't think the missile shields are causing a new cold war?
I respect your opinions and I will indeed further research the dynamics of the missile shields.

Georgia didn't attack Russia. Russia invaded Georgia to stop the fighting in S. Ossetia.

Missile is nothing but a dummy flying rocket. It needs to be guided. Nuclear Missile is equipped with GPS device. Anti-missile Shield missile is guided by radar or laser to intercept the incoming missile. It is impossible to use that for "First-Strike." How are you supposed to guide that missile to specific spot? Beside - its range is VERY short because it needs to be light enough to be very fast enough to catch up to incoming missile.

Currently - we're working on Reagan's Star War project. We're actually using laser for that purpose. Experimentally - it works. pretty nice.

eh don't really care. Point is - Russia's being quite aggressive with its economic growth and that means many oil pipelines all over. USA is willing to help little countries to have some defense capability.

that was funny. yer last quote is what makes the world laugh about you, the US never ever helps anyone without and self gain, eg security oil etc, give us a break, show one example of charitable cause? with no oil?security etc, like giving in the pretence of charity to stop russia. how naive do you have to be? it's oil or security with you lot, i cant think of any other reason in the past, if you can then point it out.

We rebuilt Japan, Germany, S. Korea, and now Iraq.....

All with our money and not theirs. That's pretty charitable.

after ye destroyed it for gain? or security. fail to see your point

so what do you suggest? Let Japan invade Pearl Harbor and our West Coast? Let Germany Nazi conquer Europe? Let North Korea and China control Asia under communism?

ye need to kindly stfu and piss off.

you sat and watched millions of your so called allies die, wasnt our war, ye onyl joined and came here because you realised it woudl effect you, we dont thank the us but japan, it was them that got through your thick skulls it was a world threat and not just a european one, if the US wasn't as usual protecting her own interests and tried to see the bigger picture the war would ahve been over 4 years ealier and millions of lives on all sides less, so dont say you saved us, japan did by showing you it wasnt a european war

My mistake. Good catch, Byrdie. :)
It doesn't matter who attacked first, I guess. The whole point is our "punishing" Russia with this "defensive missile shield." They don't trust us, and who can blame them? The people in Europe know about this situtation and the US motives there. A lot of people also seem to think that Iran will fire missiles around Europe. Come on now.
I researched the shields and am less than impressed. Satellites, radar, interceptors, etc. all designed like star wars vomit from mad scientists, hopefully within 30 minutes from receiving the first warning to actually work. Which a heckuva lot of scientists say won't. And the cost...
Ah well, tell you what. Why don't I just go sit out on the porch?

Dang, mate, ye got a point there. Right after WWII instead of teaching the Japanese how to build cars, McArthur shoulda said Screw it, we are going to send missionaries! Then we wouldn't be in this awful mess, lol.

after ye destroyed it for gain? or security. fail to see your point

Both as Germany and Japan, S. Korea are secured countries--just like Iraq would be.

Gain in terms of democracies. Security in terms that those countries aren't "Axis of Evil"--so to speak.
