math

That's the key. Understanding the concept makes math easier to do and understand than doing rote exercises.
 
I've always struggled with anything math-related. I was in Special Ed. for speech and language as a child and have motor skills, sequence and processing issues. I kept failing my undergraduate remedial math class at my university. I self-referred to Disabled Student Services to see what was going on and was diagnosed with math LD. DVR bought me a particular calculator for students with learning disabilities or cognitive disabilities, to use in my remedial math class.

I did not learn to tell time or count money til high school and have never worn a watch. I count on my fingers many times.

I saw FF's problem and had no idea what it meant.

Dogmom, First of all, I am sorry about your experience. At least,I totally forget how to do it anymore. Thank god I finished this math stuff over 15 years ago! :giggle: Well it is sort of coming back to me that my girl needs help. :shock: I will find out about how was she doing with her quiz eventually.
 
:ty: Frisky, no problem, yeah I'm glad I finished classroom math stuff too!
There's day-to-day stuff I find much more challenging than other people do but I just do my best, a lot of times my hub helps me and I do things differently or my own way. Sometimes it just takes me longer.


It's good to see parents helping out their kids with the homework and seeing what they're doing in school and bringing home:)
 
I love math as a I have a degree in Mathematics. Imagine life without mathematics!
 
i refused let my son have caluculater until he was 13 concquence he took GCSE math at 14 got A'*.
Life with out math world would end, thank god world never relied on me. i did well in physics a miricle 'princples of moments or hooks law' i sure my life has been enriched for knowing but where i not sure

That's good to hear! Sadly, many teachers/parents let their kids learn at an early age how to use calculators rather than letting them exercise their brain by sheer memorization. Many kids these days rely on their calculators without understanding how the calculator obtains the answer. As a result, they cannot deduct how to solve problems by hand themselves. It is a pet peeve when kids rely on calculators for really simple arithmetic problems. Calculators most of the time should be used to verify answers after solving them by hand.
