Boeing 747 LCF Dreamlifter cargo plane bound for McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kan., from New York City landed at the wrong airport late Wednesday and is now temporarily stuck there.

Boeing cargo jet to take off from Wichita airport's short runway - CNN.com

When fully loaded, the Dreamlifter needs a runway 9,199 feet long to take off, CNN said. The Jabara runway is 6,101 feet. It will try to take off around noon today. Can it make it??? I think that should load out all package and min. fuel. avoid heavy loaded.

I hope it didn't crack the runaway

We have a Dreamlifter Operations Center in Charleston, adjacent to the airport. Those planes are monsters.

I am not sure I want to watch the news at noon time today. That would be so horrible if is doesn't made it and cashes

They used up most of the fuel from JFK airport, and it was safe to take off on a lightened weight -- from the article:

But a spokeswoman for the airport authority, Valerie Wise, cited favorable weather Thursday and the fact that much of the fuel had been used in the flight from JFK -- which lightened the weight of the plane -- for the conclusion that it was safe to take off on the shorter runway. "The engineers have been running calculations all night," she said.

Supposedly the fuel is full, the plane might not make the short take off.

I saw on the news they had to lose some fuel to made the plane lighter.

FAA is investigating the incident. Why did it land at the wrong airport? The pilot responded to a controller who asked him if he knows where he is, "Well, (laugh) we think we have a pretty good pulse". Then the controller informed him that he is at Jabara and the pilot responded "Say again?". :laugh2: He must feel embarrassed by it.

oooops ... sorry about that. You know, when you are driving and you make a wrong turn, its not a big deal.

I know , it would horrible if tried to take off and something happen. The news reported they took some fuel out to lighten the plane. That is what the CC said but you know how CC leave out have of what been said something.
I may not understand a few words and try to read the CC but they left that part out.

Driving is not the same as piloting. The controller asked because it was a big deal. Imagine, if the controller didn't inform the pilot. The pilot got off the plane and waited for the ****ing trucks to pick up the cargo. Then he found out he was not at McConnell Air Force Base. He would feel/look like a fool definitely.

I've heard that it's not uncommon for planes to land at the wrong airports. Guess this one made news because of the size of the plane and the small airport it landed at.
