Manager Slain At Taco Bell - Miami News Story - WPLG Miami

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. -- The Broward Sheriff's Office is on the hunt for two men believed to be connected to the killing of a restaurant manager at an Oakland park Taco Bell on Monday morning.

Police identified the victim as 39-year-old Tikkitress Johnson, of Fort Lauderdale, a manager at the Taco Bell in the 500 block of East Oakland Park Boulevard.

Police said Johnson had arrived at about 8 a.m. to prepare the restaurant for its 10 a.m. opening time. Three coworkers came in at about 8:45 a.m. and discovered her body.

BSO said the initial call it received reports that a person had fallen, but police said they believe there was foul play.

"When the deputies got here, that's when they determined that it wasn't a fall injury, it was something more than that," said Mike Jachles of BSO.

BSO said they believe to men might be posing as potential job seekers in order to gain access to businesses in the area. Police warned that employees should not open their closed businesses to anyone they do not know.

The two robbers each are described as men in their early 20s, about 6 feet tall and about 170 pounds. One of the men had shoulder-length dreadlocks and wore a white, long-sleeved shirt over a white T-shirt, a black belt, tan pants and white-and-red sneakers. The other man had a medium afro and wore a black T-shirt, tan pants and black sneakers.

Rob Poetsch of Taco Bell Corp. released the following statement Monday afternoon:

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim and all of those throughout the community who have been affected by this unfortunate and senseless tragedy. We are cooperating with the police in their investigation and hope that the individual(s) responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Family member Charles Jackson said Johnson, a mother of three, had worked at the Taco Bell for 20 years. He described her as a kind woman, respected by those in the area.

"You come in there a dollar short and she would say, 'Go ahead, take your meal,'" Jackson said. "She was a church-going person, very nice to everybody. She don't look down on nobody or nothing."

Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).

If they get caught, chances are we'll be footing the tax dollars to keep these creeps alive in prison with free meals, a place to sleep and all the good stuff that lower middle class to poor people that can't afford.

A close friend of mine was the owner of a local pawn shop. One Friday evening, he was found shot to death behind the counter. When the coroner turned his body over, they found his personal defense pistol, misfired. Further investigation revealed that three teenagers drew a gun on him and demanded cash. When the three looked at the door when someone walked in, the pawn shop owner pulled his pistol and pulled the trigger, only to have his gun fail. The teenager with the gun emptied it into the owner and the three fled. All three are now serving a life sentence.

If you wish to defend yourself, you are always free to do so. However, make sure you know what you are doing and make sure your defense weapon works.

May I ask if the defense pistol was a semi-automatic or a full automatic? For me...I want to only go with a revolver. The mechanism is pretty simple..load it..revolves and the hammer taps the bullet.

I'm under the impression that full automatic is illegal. He had a .25 automatic. I have a Walther .32 automatic and use full metal jackets. The only reason I use that auto pistol is because it was given to me. Its the only pistol I own.

Suspect Arrested In Taco Bell Killing - Miami News Story - WPLG Miami

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A suspect in the stabbing death of a Taco Bell assistant manager was a former employee, and police said he confessed to the crime.

The body of 39-year-old Tikkitress Johnson was found Monday morning on the floor of the Oakland Park Boulevard Taco Bell where she worked.

Police said Johnson had arrived at about 8 a.m. to prepare the restaurant for its 10 a.m. opening time. Three co-workers came in at about 8:45 a.m. and discovered her body. Police determined she died from stab wounds.

Investigators said they were searching for two men in Johnson's killing.

Karari Ritchie, 20, was arrested on Tuesday. He faces a charge of murder and will be held without bond.

"This started out as a robbery but sadly it turned out to be cold-blooded murder," said Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti.

Investigators at the Broward Sheriff's Office said they believe Ritchie, who is a former Taco Bell employee who knew Johnson, and another man knocked on the door of the restaurant while Johnson was alone that morning. Ritchie told Johnson he needed a job application for himself and his friend, and Johnson unlocked the door and let them in.

Police said the men forced Johnson to hand over cash, and then stabbed her several times. The men escaped, leaving Johnson for dead, according to BSO.

"It was brutal and it started because the victim trusted the suspect, whom she knew as a previous employee of Taco Bell," Lamberti said.

A fingerprint led investigators to name Ritchie as a suspect. He was arrested at his Lauderdale Lakes home, and police said he confessed that the crime was a planned robbery and murder.

Police said Ritchie admitted to taking rides home from Johnson after work in the past. Investigators said that during the interrogation, Ritchie called Johnson, a wife and mother of three, "an outstanding woman."

According to detectives, Ritchie killed Johnson because he was worried she would identify him.

The Broward Sheriff's Office continues to search for the second assailant and said investigators are pursuing leads.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477)
