OAKLAND PARK, Fla. -- The Broward Sheriff's Office is on the hunt for two men believed to be connected to the killing of a restaurant manager at an Oakland park Taco Bell on Monday morning.
Police identified the victim as 39-year-old Tikkitress Johnson, of Fort Lauderdale, a manager at the Taco Bell in the 500 block of East Oakland Park Boulevard.
Police said Johnson had arrived at about 8 a.m. to prepare the restaurant for its 10 a.m. opening time. Three coworkers came in at about 8:45 a.m. and discovered her body.
BSO said the initial call it received reports that a person had fallen, but police said they believe there was foul play.
"When the deputies got here, that's when they determined that it wasn't a fall injury, it was something more than that," said Mike Jachles of BSO.
BSO said they believe to men might be posing as potential job seekers in order to gain access to businesses in the area. Police warned that employees should not open their closed businesses to anyone they do not know.
The two robbers each are described as men in their early 20s, about 6 feet tall and about 170 pounds. One of the men had shoulder-length dreadlocks and wore a white, long-sleeved shirt over a white T-shirt, a black belt, tan pants and white-and-red sneakers. The other man had a medium afro and wore a black T-shirt, tan pants and black sneakers.
Rob Poetsch of Taco Bell Corp. released the following statement Monday afternoon:
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim and all of those throughout the community who have been affected by this unfortunate and senseless tragedy. We are cooperating with the police in their investigation and hope that the individual(s) responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
Family member Charles Jackson said Johnson, a mother of three, had worked at the Taco Bell for 20 years. He described her as a kind woman, respected by those in the area.
"You come in there a dollar short and she would say, 'Go ahead, take your meal,'" Jackson said. "She was a church-going person, very nice to everybody. She don't look down on nobody or nothing."
Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
