I agree! the drunk is a wanker he might be quite big or even intimidating have they thought of that?

it can get very subjective, i just think its bullshit about why people having to be so ligitious, people need to grow up and no, i dont think the barman should be hounded, he was doing his job on his side of the bargain, the drunk , well he should be told to seek help for the drinking issues he's facing!

i agree, they should get rid of this stupid law (state law or federal , whatever i dont know i live in New Zealand, never had problems with that, in fact, its like common sense , they should recognise the fact people might have came to sense 'oh shit i had too much to drink id sleep it off here and lock the car' i cant see it how that is a crime,, dammit its just pathetic but on other hand, it is well known it does take a long time for alcohol to get through the system...

hmm but still, failing to recognise that someone decided to wait a few hours to sober up providing not too drunk - which may mean they'd be able to drive home within legal limits...
i dunno its same states in USA, aussie (and other countrys) is just plain dumb

It's getting to a point where people are refusing to accept responsibility for their own actions and put the blame on others instead.

That's how it is in the education system. Before, if a kid did bad in school... the parents would scold the kid... or we would look at the parents for not helping the kid. Nowadays, it's at the fault of the teachers... while the parents don't do a thing for their kids.

Different people respond differently to alcohol. Some people appear to be affected by alcohol sooner while others later.

What if this guy already had drinks before going to the bar? That would mean that the bartender likely served a limited number of drinks (without knowing the guy had more beforehand).

Either way, we shouldn't be blaming the bartender. We should be blaming the guy who got drunk himself. He chose to get drunk. He chose to drive home. :roll:

Because adults are supposedly able to exercise good judgment and either drink in moderation or have a designated driver.
 
You can get a DUI just after one drink. So talking about personal responsibility. One drink, and a person crash. Ummmmm.....Then what?? Bartenders fault?? SURE... it is always easier to blame someone else for your stupidity. Right?????

I say the idiot took on the responsibility as soon as he walked in the damn bar.

Well, apparently, this ol' timer didn't....(use good judgment, drink in moderation, designated driver)......Try telling a 73-year-old "you've had too much".....!....What was that old quote....."Friends don't let friends drive drunk".....

Alcoholics don't sense "good judgment"....and an 73-yr-old won't listen to someone "telling him what to do."....I'm not saying it's the bartender's fault, but it's possible that it was....and a 73-yr-old is not a "spring chicken"....someone at that bar should have been sober enuf to arrange a safe ride for him home. And I believe it's the bartender's responsibility not to serve any patron who is obviously drunk, inasmuch, some Bars do care about their "regular customers", even give them coffee/food to "sober up" enuf to drive home.
 
Just imagine...Whole squads of cops parked outside parking lots of bars at closing time. What busy chaps they would be. :|

You bet!....even people that have parties in their homes....some Cops will park around the corner, waiting for people to leave, follow them, and at the 1st incident of weaving or driving reckless....even having a tail light out...the cop will pull them over.....

Many bars here in Jax have a restaurant next door, or very close by, open all night, for bar patrons to just walk over, eat and drink coffee for an hour or so and sober up somewhat.

You tell him he had too much by refusing to serve him. He can't argue with that.

Coffee doesn't sober drunks up. Only time will do that.
