Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie have sparked cries of outrage after being seen in public dressed up as a nun and the Pope at a kabbalah party in London Thursday night to celebrate the Jewish festival of Purim.

Madonna's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, tells PEOPLE that the pop star and her husband didn't intend to offend anyone. "They meant no disrespect at all," says Rosenberg, "not in the slightest."

In fact, Rosenberg says that Madonna had a great time at the Purim celebration and is taking the costume hubbub in stride: "She said jokingly, 'I was hoping the paparazzi would take some pictures of us. I know if my father sees the picture, he could finally be proud of me.' She was laughing about it.

The 'feminist jacko' in Madonna is waiting to be outed.

What's the big fuss?

If this is about the Pope... this was taken before the Pope had passed away. Y'all wouldn't had noticed or posted this if Pope was still alive.

While it is tacky, I can see why Madonna picked that out. She grew up in staunch Catholic family and she rebelled against Catholic Church so she was "mocking" her previous religion as she is now into Kabbalah. Note the part where she made an ironic remark about her father being proud of her..that was because most Catholic families want their kids to be nuns or priests. So I find it double sworded irony there in her action.

But you know how Madonna is..she likes to shock us.
