Man convicted of killing gay lover's Sydney family

A man who suddenly attacked his gay lover of three years and then killed the man's wife and children has been found guilty of murder.
Crespin Adanguidi, 27, bound and gagged Raymond Shen, 59, in his Maroubra flat and demanded $200,000, saying he needed the money to pay a "Slovenian gang" and a "Mascot cop" for a fake passport to return to Benin in West Africa.
Adanguidi took Mr Shen's house keys and car, drove to Mr Shen's Rockdale unit and, wearing night goggles, entered the premises and bludgeoned his wife to death and shot dead his children.
Adanguidi pleaded not guilty on the grounds of mental illness to the murders of Mr Shen's wife, Shiquin Zhu, 55, his son, Pin Shen, 27, and daughter, Christy Bo Shen, 23, on February 1, 2003.
Yesterday he was found guilty after a jury deliberated for three hours.
During the trial, Mr Shen sobbed in the witness box as he described his disbelief at his closest friend turning on him.
"He looked to appear to me to be a very nice man. . . I regarded him as a friend. I told him everything ... I even showed him our company's financial statement - it says there are $750,000," Mr Shen had told the court.

No evidence was given on any arguments before the attack.
Mr Shen said Adanguidi demanded he sign over his business, New Asia Pacific Travel, and his home and give him his credit cards.
"He wanted to leave Australia because he just killed a pharmacist in Hurstville the day before and ... threw him to the bushes," Mr Shen said.
"First, he pick my daughter's photo in front of me and he said: 'Do you like your daughter?' I said: 'I do, I love my daughter.' He also said: 'I don't want to do harm to your family but the Slovenian gang force me to do that" ... He cut my hair ... he said: 'I will show that to your wife,"' he said.
"I pleaded with him ... I said: 'Please don't do harm to my family, to my children."'
