That is what I have been trying to tell her and the other oralists..that they dont seem to show empathy towards the deaf people who werent successful with the methods they believe in. All I got were excuses ..well, since general society wont give us a lot of support, we have to fight for it but only to get told that we are anti-CI.
Why does this sound so familiar?
Oh yea, they called FJ for being anti-Deaf for supporting the CI....
We usually lump people together into catergoies. If s/he isn't on our side, that means they must be on the FAR end of the other side.
To me, when it comes to deaf politics:
10% of the people here are neutral
88% of the people here lean somewhat one way or the other
2% of the people here are extremes (Pro-CI or Pro-ASL all the way)
But this is how people perceive things:
75% are on my side
25% are extremes and totally wrong.
An oralist, really? I provide my child with ASL in an oral program, and ASL at home, she has an ASL tutor and she is active in a Deaf church and the Deaf community. BUT none of that counts because she uses spoken language!
also to your previous post. (I still haven't worked out this multiple quote posting thing).
