I don't know where else to post this. This is about lawn care. Our house is a few years old with some the front, sides and part of the back house that has been placed with grass. The rest of the back grew.....I can't remember how, maybe seedling. Anyway, we have grass everywhere, but we're having a little problem with having a thick and green, green lawn. I started last week trying to water once a week even if it rains that week. This year we got someone to spray the lawn to get rid of weeds and fertlize it. It's doing okay, we still have some backyard weeds problem. The person wrote to water the lawn since grass was dry. I am guessing that all we have to do is water the lawn weekly, but I am really confused because I have some neighbors that don't seem to water and their lawn are green and thick. Our backyard have patches everywhere where grass don't seem to grow. We seed it every year. Is there anyone with a green thumb and care to give some tips on anything that I am not doing to have a green and thick lawn? I have noticed that some part of the grass is green and thick like the edges because possibly water from the pavement goes their way which makes thick and green lawns. It's possibly lack of weekly water schedules, right?

Why don't you call the lawn control company, they might have a suggestion or is able to help with the problem you're having in your yard, I have the same service, they did an awesome job on the yard, now my grass looks fully grown and no more weeds but I do have a few spots in the back yard cause I live in a wooden area which my back yard looks like a jungle heh..

Hmm, maybe I could see if I could e-mail them. I am not really the one paying the lawn, but I am helping care for the lawn this summer. I read that not watering enough can cause some weeds to appear and watering will send them packing away. Maybe those weeds in the backyard is the problem with not watering. I have wondered if I should water twice a week for awhile, then once a week thereafter. It's a lot of work changing the sprinkler. Time to look for the one that goes in circle instead of back and forth if you know what I mean.

yes I sure do know what you mean, let me know if the problem solves maybe I can learn something out of this too :)

call someone about this.... And maybe you can get advice from them..... I don't know nothing about lawn care...... Hope you get this strighten out

feed water every one hour after 6PM. do not feed water during midafternoon due sun dry water off from grass. I alway use foods lawn and weeds killer in every four weeks. Both foods lawn and weeds killer can be found at depot home, menards and lowe's.

PS sometime not 100% weeds killer get rid of it. GRRR!!!! i hate that.

it same plm as my parents have. So they did come to their yard to sprinkles to fertizie. Told them its best to have rain than "water" but if none water so long. Then u have to spray with water. Anyway, they warn them, NEVER mow ur grasses unless after rain or water. It help them grows so fast. My parents did complain some grasses aren't grows that thick and some spots. So they came there and sprinkles over and over. And it works. My parents used had alots grasses turned to brown every summer. But after lawn care.. it stopped.

It depends on where you live and what kind of grass you have. Southern grasses and northern grasses are very different from each other.

Other influences are amount of shade, texture of soil, and pH content.

You should get your soil analyzed. In our area the Clemson Extension service provides soil analysis, and they have a website that answers lawn and garden questions.

Perhaps your state has an extension service also. Usually thru state universities or state departments of natural resources.

at my home, i just leave it the way it is, for one thing, with chemical on the grass it may affect my dogs who go outside in the backyard all day along to go pee. another thing we couldn't afford to pay for those chemical.. lol

my home has a watering ban, which means that on odd days (1, 3, 5, etc) odd number houses can water their grass, plants, etc. and on even days, even number houses can water.. example, i live on 99 ______________ Ave, I can only water my grass or plants on July 1, 3, 5, 7, etc.

But its easier for me if we don't water the grass, cuz it means less cutting the lawn.

Well, the service person uses weed killer plus fertilizers, so it would not make sense to add more fertalizers except to the flowers.

I know there are some people with great lawns around here. These people I have seen water their lawn religiously. I think it's not watering. I think it's the best way to start. It's a lot of work, but it doesn't matter. I am just worried that I won't get the results that I want with the patchy lawn, but I will try to find an e-mail for the lawn service to ask for suggestions.

Also, I have seen people water their lawn around noon or during hot sun. One man down the street does that, and he has a good lawn. Another one I have seen late in the evening, and really nice thick and green lawn. I have read that it's best to water at 10 pm until early morning before 9 am. I have a problem watering when it's dark outside. I can't see where the water is flowing when I have to move the sprinkler around. It has to be during daylight, perhaps early morning or late evening before it becomes dark.

Ideally, watering late at night would be for people who have several ground sprinkler that comes up when you set a timer, and you can probably buy a timer for hose sprinklers, but I would have to switch the sprinklers anyway, and I wouldn't go out while it's dark to do that. It sounds really not ideal while it's dark out.

Thanks for your advices :D.
