DSL modem has DHCP feature, that can be called gateway.

For me, I'm rather to call "DSL modem".
 
I hear that Acer have terrible customer service. Beware warranty service.
 
If you plugged into the ethernet port with the internet, you would get high-speed internet. If you plugged into the modem port with the phone jack, you would get dial-up speed.

They were very good to me. When I first got new Acer laptop. The Slim DVD RW drive went borked on the first day. I sent it to Acer and they had it fixed and returned it to me within 2 weeks. Technicians are very nice. I never had plm with it for long time. I did asked qq's about hardware stuff that I can upgrade. They kindly explained to me thru email.

Guess they have changed.

I guess their service have gotten worst this year LOL. I wouldn't care tho cuz my lappy warranty soon be expired this Oct anyway.

I would LOVE to get different. maybe smaller Lappy and have Nvidia graphic chipset to allow me to install Linux and have 3D Beryl desktop. (I realized that 15.4 Wide screen lappy is TOO BIG to use while on flight (squashed ego!!)!! I had to tilt my lappy into cramped up "V" to use!! :crazy::pissed:, I envy anyone who have 12 inch screen Lappy that fits nicely on rear seat tray!!) My lappy can't do 3D Beryl desktop due to ATI Xpress 200m graphic chipset Linux driver. It'll installs and run Linux just fine but Beryl.

Consumer Report on LapTop

They said that Laptop is the worst due to alota repairment, they said a computer is less repair than laptop, I was shocked to read that in the Consumer Report...Oh boy!

Maybe the newer Acer laptop have lotta problems and craps which I don't know of.

Mine is nearly 1 years old. So what! :giggle:. I guess I got lucky break.

Try Dell laptops?? Or Try Motherboard's branded laptops such as Giga-byte, Asus, ABit, ect.. They customized their own lappy. Or get Alienware lappy!!

AVOID Gateway laptops or desktop ! They sure sux BIG time!!! :rl: I helped my friend reinstall XP on his "Gunkway" lappy. It took me 1 1/2 hours to have it all installed plus another 1/2 hours of updates coming from it's CDrom!!! (Siiighh "thump" :pissed:) I did nuthing but to sit and watch and wait for it's request for OK or Cancel.. (I wasted 3 hours on it!! and regretted that I wish I hadn't touched Gateway's germ!!). It's just Gateway's restoration CDrom is a load of craps. Told my friend that my Acer restoration CD on Acer laptop get it done within 1/2 hr and ready to go. (His Gateway lappy have 2.0 AMD Semptron, 512gb ddr, 80GB hdd, DVDrw drive, and 15.4 WXGA screen. which is as big and fast as my Acer lappy)
