How old can a kid start wearing seat belt?

How much weighs can a kid be to wear a seat belt?

Safety seat is required for any child under how old, regardless of size of weight?

Safety seat is also required over four years of age, but under how many pounds?

Babies up to 20 pounds and about age 1, should ride in a safety seat secured to the back seat facing the FRONT or REAR of the car?

I wondered if Britney Spears did the right thing with her baby.

Children under the age of 6 can wear seat belts if they weigh more than 80 pounds or if they can sit with their backs against the car's seat and bend their legs over the seat edge without slouching. Otherwise, they must be at least 6.

If they are less than 6 years old, 80 pounds.

Children from birth to 1 year old, or who weigh less than 20 pounds, must be secured in a rear-facing child safety seat.

Children 1 through 5 years old weighing 20 to 40 pounds must be restrained in a forward-facing child seat.

Children 1 through 5 years old weighing 20 to 40 pounds must be restrained in a forward-facing child seat.
Children 1 through 5 years old weighing 40 to 80 pounds must be secured in a belt-positioning booster seat.

see above

Not the time she was caught on camera holding her baby on her lap while she was driving.

Your poll doesn't list the correct answer, so I can't vote in it.

If you want people to vote in your polls you need to be more careful about the selections you provide for choices.

For NY state law,

from newborn to 1 year old must be rear faced. After a year old and weigh more than 20 lbs, can face foward in car seat.

I am not sure the weigh for booster seat. But my son used it at 2 since he was tall and heavy. So he used it for a year and half I think. Now he have booster seat and can use seat belt...that is up to 7 years old.

As for front seat, 12 years old or older because of air bag is very dangerious and can kill kids.

Britney Spears' baby was 8 months old, so Britney Spears was wrong.

The correct answer in the manual is...

Seat Belt is required for each person who is age 4 or older and weighs over 40 pounds.

Safety Seat is required for any child:

*under 4 years of age regardless of size or weight.
*over 4 years of age, but under 40 pounds.

Babies up to 20 pounds and about age 1 should ride in a safety seat
secured to the back seat facing the rear of the car.

I DIDN"T KNOW THAT.

Babies shoulld not be placed forward or backward in the front passenger seat if the vehicle has a passenger-side air bag.

BUT I CAN put babies in the front seat, if I don't have air bag???? :dunno:

um? I think not.

Why they don't have seat belt law for dogs? Dogs kept sliding from side to side in the back seat... and sometimes bumped their noses on the dashboard.

That's the manual for your state. Each state is different.

In my state, the minimum age for regular seatbelts is 6 years. The other ages and weights that I posted are for my state.

There are even exceptions to that rule; two-seater cars and pick-up trucks without back seats. Newer trucks often have switches to turn off the passenger side air bag, specifically for that reason. Our '98 Dakota had such a switch even though it had an extended cab.

Hey Reba, don't you know that you must sit 10 inches away from air bag or else it will knock your head off?

Do you trust air bag?

In CA, 6 years old and under are required to provide child restraint in back seat except for people own old cars and trucks that don't including airbags then it can put child restraint on front seat BUT... it required to backward. Children that's under 13 years old are required to sit in back seat, except for trucks and old cars that don't have airbags.

They do make pet harnesses that attach to seat belts, or small pets can be put in pet carriers (especially good for carrying skittish cats). But most people don't want to bother, and it's not required.

In SC, it is even allowed to carry dogs loose in the back of pickups.

It won't neccessarily "knock off" the head of an adult but the further back you sit from the airbag, the better. Kids are more vulnerable because they are shorter, and their necks are weaker.

The airbags also expell hot gases when they detonate. Not so bad in the new models but in the older models they frequently caused burns and eye damage.

Do you trust air bag?
Sure, but I think defensive driving is more effective, and I always wear my seatbelt.

Where I hail from, in the friendly state of Iowa, children under 12 weren't allowed to sit up front where an air-bag could be deployed.

Each state and cities have their own set of regulations regarding seatbelts and children. Refer to your state laws accordingly. ;)

it shouldn't be that way... alll cars rule should be the same...

what if somebody from other state visit another state, and doesn't know their law? And the police officers give them a ticket for violate traffic law.

That isn't fair.

As a semi-trucker once before, the key is 'preparation'...when heading out of state, preparing for the trip includes knowing the different laws that might otherwise need to be considered. Although, most likely, a trooper will see that such a motorist is from another state simply be seeing the license plates and more or less, give a warning. But the bottom line is simply be safe and wise when it comes to protecting 'our' children in vehicles--it's like, the other day, so saddening to see a small child jumping up and down (while standing!) in the front seat....I just can't bear to think what could happen to that precious child if an accident were to occur!!

Sooo...be safe than to be sorry. ;)

all state and provices have their own opinion on laws that they believe is right, and not all the time everyone agrees, so they have different laws. it can get confusing and painful to learn but laws are set for your safety.
