Are your kids growing-up too fast, too soon? Many pre-teens want their freedom and parents worried if their child is dressing up too sexy, too gothic or revealing too much skin even though children do like to make a statement with the way they like to express themselves to others..

I would like to hear parent's opinion here.. Where do you draw the line when it comes to fashions and fads? ... :applause:
 
I allow some extravagance but not with exposing skin. Gothic, punk as long as it is reasonable and tasteful, not revealing, not crazy amd shocking, is fine with me.

Too me exposing too much skin is a sign of emotional insecurity and wanting attention. I believe if these issues are addressed then the problem of "underdressing" disappears too.

So no midriff unless it is at the beach. No cleavage, no skimpy shorts showing buttcheeks. Also no too short mini - skirt.

Fortunately I don't have this problem with my daughter- knock knock knock..

There is a time and place for everything.. including clothing and makeup.. that's what I always say.

My daughter knows.. I'm not allowed her wear mini skirts and showing belly..
She has to wear sumth'n else... Nicely not toooo way sexy.
 
I'm not worried, because I have two boys. :whistle:
 
Haha Cheri. Me too. I have 2 boys. Lately, I notice my older son who is ONLY 3 years old. Hes fussy with what kind of clothes hes going to wear! I was like huh! enjoy your life but dont be too picky! hah. that what i said to him. He likes to wear alot of old navy or in style clothes. He dislike any clothes that has cartoons or anything EXPECT spiderman thing is Ok! ?!?
Anywayyy back to the point.. umm, I think its all about you feel is more apporiate.. if you felt its way too much or doesnt feel comfortable for your kid wear this or that. Just tell your kid that u are not comfortable with what they are wearing and explain them why rather than remove them and force them to wear something else. Maybe open the commuincate with your kids and asking them why do they want to wear this or that. u know.. really commuincate is your key to open up with kids..
 
Oh yeah!

My boys are very picky about clothes... Danny likes designer clothes and love designer shoes/runner but Alan don´t care about designer clothes and runner... That´s good is they accept and understood that I only buy designer clothes for special offer, also birthday, Easter and Xmas as well.

My both boys have different fashion tastes... I see no problem to accept their different tastes. I taught them which right color to match pants, etc... when they were little boys - they know right color match...

They both received month allowance from us. Until one day Danny need scoocer shoes. We went to shopping mall. He picked expensive "Nike" designer shoes for €45... :nono: I found good quality scoocer shoes "Victory" for €19.95 and suggest him that I gave him €20 then he can pay €25 extra from his money allowance to buy Nike shoes... I told him that he know I don´t buy anything expensive unless special offer. Danny was like :roll: with *sigh* and say Okay and then took €20. I told him to think about this and then went off to buy foods at next store... It took him for a while to think about then buy "Victory" scoocer shoes at last instead of get €25 extra from his allowance to buy Nike... :whistle:

Danny remind me to buy designer clothes and shoes when there´re summer and winter special offer comes... :roll: :D

My Hub and I will not allow our 3 girls to make decisions that could put them in harms way. Really dressing like that gives the strong signal that you are easy. Boys will wanna try anything to get the rest off..

Our oldest has expressed some likes in certain items of clothing, I just tell her that it's not appropriate for her. When she is 19-20 and living on her own..then she is able to do what she please. But not in my house. To dress dangerousily like that, they have to understand they need to be responsible for how they dress (what feedback you may get from people).

Seriousily I have seen 10,11, 12 year olds look like 18 year old girls. All I can think about is what are their parents thinking????! I mean, you get these guys saying," She didn't look that young!" DUH! Just because she doesn't look like it, doesn't mean it's so.

Don't wanna be called a slut (cause you aren't)...don't dress like one. Giving people the wrong impression, can misinform people of who you really are and what you really stand for (believe in).
 
I have a 9 years old daughter. She is very advance for her age. We have to try and catch up with her. Do any of you feels like that??? :)
 
Set some ground rules as long as they are living in your household... Thats all I can say bout that

I understand 100% what you meant. I, too, have a daughter who now is 9. She THINKS she's 19, talks like a teenager , etc... BUT, thanks god she's not dressed up like 19!!
 
I have an 8 year old daughter that's gonna be 9 in 2 weeks. She is started to get really picky about clothes.. only just the way it fits. She doesn't care about the brand names. She's acting her own age and likes to play rough outside and plays softball. I think somewhat its keeping her fit in her age range. If it wasn't for softball, I believe she'll be like 9 going on 30, become a cheerleader, etc. I wouldn't let her become a cheerleader because from my experience. My mother, sister, grandmother, cousins were all cheerleaders. They ended up going into some bad situations when they were growing up. I'm not saying all are the same. Its gotta be in our genes that this whole family wants to be a cheerleader, I was a cheerleader for short and hated it. I turned to sports such as softball, basketball, volleyball and track. That's where my daughter is heading to.. softball and basketball.. now she wants to play volleyball. I think that's a good attitude and its great for discipline too.

She does give me a hard time sometimes when it comes to her attitude when she can't have what she wants.

The only way I do is keep everything the way I wanted it to be.. not her way.. but my way.
 
Your daughter is a beauty, I wouldn't be surprise if she became a cheerleaders one day, I'm wondering if you ever were one yourself?...

My husband's teenager son was so pain in butt! His teenager daugther was so sweet and lovely. His daugther Amy moved with us when she was 13 years old. We had much good life together. Then she moved out when she was 19. His son Nick had lot of problem. He moved with us one half year ago.
I didnt expect him being rebelling, no respect, etc. My husband and I didnt raise him like that because he divorced his ex when his son was 7 years old. He lived with his mother, we dont know what she done with him. We had to kick him out because he is 18 years old. He didnt want get job. He got kicked out from his school. It was very hard for me to handle two teenager kids because I never had children before. I didnt have any children when I met my husband. I got preg with my son Wesley when we got married. Wesley is 8 years old now. He almost had same issue as Nick but We worked on him so hard. Wesley forget about bad example from Nick so fast. We give him lot of loves and tough love too. I hope that Wesley will never remember what Nick done when he will be teenager. I know how handle teenager because I had experience with two teenager kids. whoa. I was so young stepmother! no kidding!

Yeah, that true. She talks like a 19 years old but she dress like a normal child.

Just about my whole family was a cheerleader.. I was a cheerleader for a week and I hated it!!! So yes I had the body and flexibility to be a cheerleader. No I will not let Jaci become one. She can only be involve in any other sports such as basketball, volleyball, softball, track, swimming, etc. but not cheerleading.
 
I was tearing my eyes to see my son is growing into young handsome man. I cant believe, he was in my arms and rocky the chair. It was so inspirated to me to seeing him in beautiful tux and ride in the limo to the Prom night.

Back to the topic:

I can see the girls grow up very fast to wear as they all want to wear. They did not realize about alot of prevert men out there nowadays ! They stared at younger girls. :(
