LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A popular local TV anchorwoman who had a small part in the Bush biopic "W" was in critical condition Monday after being beaten in her home, and police said they are investigating possible motives.

KATV anchor Anne Pressly, 26, was found about 4:30 a.m. Monday by her mother, who went to the house when her daughter didn't answer a wake-up call, Little Rock police spokesman Cassandra Davis said.

Davis said investigators are talking to Pressly's co-workers to determine whether she "has had any problems." Davis said Pressly's purse was gone and that robbery was among the possible motives being explored. Davis would not discuss specifics of what the investigation revealed.

Pressly was found unresponsive in her bed and a police report said she was bleeding from her head. Davis said Pressly was in critical condition at an hospital.

Davis said Pressly was stabbed, but KATV cited investigators later in reporting that all of her injuries were from being beaten in the head and upper body.

Pressly appeared briefly in Oliver Stone's new movie about President Bush that opened over the weekend.

She portrays a conservative commentator who speaks favorably of President Bush's "Mission Accomplished" event on an aircraft carrier shortly after the start of the Iraq war. She won the role after being noticed by the casting director when she went to Shreveport, La., where the movie was filmed, to work on a story about it and the city's film industry.

Spokeswoman Kate Hubin for the film company Lionsgate confirmed Pressly's role but declined to comment further.

KATV's Web site notes that Pressly's most notable interview was with Vice President Dick Cheney. Traveling through an Arkansas town, she found the highway blocked in front of a hunting goods store because Cheney was inside. Pressly asked for an interview, which she conducted on the ammunition aisle.

During its 11:30 a.m. newscast, anchor Jason Pederson read a story about the attack.

"We would ask that you keep Anne in your thoughts and, especially, in your prayers," Pederson said.

Early Monday afternoon, a man answering a phone number for Pressly's mother, Patricia Cannady, said the family had no comment.

An anchor for a Little Rock television station was found in her home early Monday suffering from life-threatening wounds.

Little Rock police say KATV's Anne Pressly, 26, was found by her mother at about 4:30 a.m. lying in her bed and bleeding from being beaten and stabbed, Little Rock police spokeswoman Sgt. Cassandra Davis says.

Davis said there were no suspects as of mid-morning Monday but that the attack may have come during a robbery, because Pressly's purse was missing. However, there were no signs of forced-entry. Police are searching for a weapon in the area but have not found one.

Davis said investigators are talking to friends of Pressly's to find out if she had been threatened. Davis says she had never reported any stalker incidents to Little Rock police.

The last known contact with Pressly was between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Pressly's mother gives her daughter a wake-up call and went to the house Monday after she called her several times and she didn't answer.

THV's Pam Baccam is following this story today and will continue to have updates on Today's THV and todaysthv.com.

Reward Fund Set Up In Anne Pressly Case - todaysthv.com | KTHV | Little Rock, AR

KATV and Little Rock Police Department Crimestoppers have set up a reward fund for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person(s) involved in the attack of KATV anchor and reporter Anne Pressly.

Wednesday afternoon, Little Rock Police Sgt. Cassandra Davis told Today's THV once again that they think the attack is random and that they "have no evidence that Ms. Pressly was a target." She said Tuesday that they believe her attack happened during a robbery. However, police say the only thing missing was Pressly's purse. (See related links for previous stories.)

Davis would not comment on the condition of rooms in the house except to confirm that they found Pressly in her bedroom. Police continue to be very tight-lipped about the details of the investigation.

Meanwhile, Pressly remains in critical condition.

You can contribute to the reward fund at Arvest bank by visiting one of their 27 locations, wiring a donation, or donating online. Just request to donate to the Anne Pressly Reward Fund.

It is with heavy hearts tonight that we tell you KATV's Anne Pressly, found beaten in her home Monday morning died tonight (Saturday) from her injuries. KATV reported Anne's death on their station earlier this evening.

It has been a difficult week for us here at Today's THV as we have closely followed the condition of Anne Pressly, as well as the on going police investigation. With news of her death, we take a look back on the events surrounding her attack.

Cassandra Davis with Little Rock Police said, "We've never seen an act carried out on a media personality."

Monday, Pressly, was found by her mother at about 4:30 a.m. lying in her bed and bleeding from being beaten. Pressly was beaten around the head, face and neck during the attack. She had been unable to communicate with her family or police, while in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Tuesday, police continued to search Pressly's home and go on leads while the community pulled together for a vigil.

Rev.Benny Johnson said, "This person will be caught. I'm asking this person to turn themselves in because sooner or later they're going to catch you. The best thing to do is to turn yourself in, because you will be caught."

Wednesday, Little Rock police searched main roads near Pressly's neighborhood for clues and for the blunt object used to beat her.

Thursday, close friends and colleagues held a candlelight vigil to show their support for Pressly and her family

Close friend Natalie Rawls said, "She's just one of those people that exudes greatness, she's one of those people that even if you don't know her you feel like you know her. I remember the first time that I met her it felt like we'd been friends for forever. She's just one of those people that make you feel that way anytime she's around."

Friday, Anne Pressly's father talked about his daughter's condition for the first time. Guy Cannady said, "She suffered an unbelievably vicious attack which has resulted in massive injuries to her head, face, neck, and hand. Anne fought back heroically with an attempt to fight off the attacker and save her life."

Saturday, 26-year-old Anne Pressly's family released a statement, it reads:

A Statement from the Family of Anne Pressly

We are profoundly saddened to tell you that our dear Anne has lost her struggle for life. It was our hope, as was yours, that Anne would overcome the injuries inflicted upon her in the brutal attack at her home. We were with her in her last moments, and although our hearts are broken, we are at the same time comforted by our faith knowing that Anne is now with our Heavenly Father.

The outpouring of compassion we have received is truly a testament to the way in which Anne has touched so many people in a positive way. Thank you for your prayers and your many acts of kindness. We are grateful for the wonderful care Anne received from her doctors, nurses and others at St. Vincent.

Our lives will not be the same without her. We ask that you continue to pray for us as we struggle to move forward without our dear sweet daughter. We also ask that you give us the privacy we need at this very difficult time.

LRPD Issues Statement on Pressly Investigation
LRPD Issues Statement on Pressly Investigation|Channel 7 News

Little Rock - In a statement released Monday, Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas defended his agency's handling of the Anne Pressly homicide investigation:

This release addresses the continuing investigation by the Little Rock Police Department regarding the homicide of Anne Pressly. The Department has not released incomplete, speculative or developing information during the course of this investigation, but such should not suggest that work is not proceeding nor being aggressively pursued in this matter. The quality and integrity of this investigation is paramount to the Department and, given the volume of work involved, the untimely release of inaccurate or incomplete information tends to misdirect investigative time and efforts. As a result, the Department has refrained from public disclosure of daily investigative progress and has discouraged the release of any information pertaining to this investigation. The Department will most assuredly make public any information which might, in the determination of the Detectives working this case, advance the investigation or might be useful for the security of the community as a whole.

Detectives assigned to the Department’s Violent Crimes, Homicide, and Crime Scene Search Units are actively participating in this investigation. The Department has also utilized the assistance of the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, the North Little Rock Police Department and the United States Secret Service during the course of the past week. Personnel with the Crime Laboratory have invested significant effort and hours in the furtherance of this investigation and the members of the Little Rock Police Department are grateful for their work. The Department has also been in contact with the local F.B.I. Office, the Arkansas State Police, and the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Arkansas and may access any needed resources or the expertise of those agencies if needed.

I recognize that the lack of daily disclosures or additional information is frustrating to the media and to members of our community. However, the foremost objective here is for a successful investigation leading to an arrest and conviction in this matter and the Department will conduct any releases of information with this objective solely on point.

The Department continues to respond to all other service requests and incidents as required. The past week has been difficult with three homicides in this City, each tragic and senseless and devastating in and of itself, but I believe the Department has and will continue to respond appropriately.

Any complaints or criticism concerning the Department’s efforts or the lack of public releases of information should be addressed solely to me and not to the police officers and detectives who are working diligently on behalf of our citizens.

-Stuart Thomas
Chief of Police
