Alright you iphone-htc-vp-relay self proclaimed pros, I got a question for you.

Is there a product that has a 3.5mm headphone jack and has a microphone, so it can amplifiy sound?
Kind of like a mp3 size, walkman cassette or a CD player, but the purpose is to amplify sound. Maybe have other inputs in it as well. Hope it runs on batteries or a rechargeable unit on it.

Where can I get something like this? Does it exist?

Looking for Alien in outer space? <grin>

Actually I seen it somewhere. I'll have to look it up at my work.

Awesome. Looking forward to your reply.

It doesn't seem like it should be too expensive to produce, since it's larger than a hearing aid.
I would like to use it for exercising and general outdoors activity when I am in an unfamiliar area.

Yeah, I want to find the Cigarette Smoking Man and his stash of alien infos!

Nice finds ncff. You have any experience on how to distinguish quality/clarity/dB gain etc between models?

Not those no. I've used a thing for watching tv years ago that would hook up to the tv and be transmitted to a wireless headset. If I remember right the louder you had it the more it made the quality degrade. Guess it would depend on how good the speakers were too. The thing would give me a headache sometimes I ended up ditching it and just using captioning and no sound.

If you have a CI, just get a adapter for it. or telecoil for phone.

I know something, give me time to look it up for you.

Nope, I don't have a CI nor tcoil available, A. :(

From some of the info in the thread, it got me searching around for a few hours. I was looking at a Williams Pocket Talker Pro:
Williams Sound - Helping People Hear

Reading around, it seems to be able to amplify up to ~20-30db where an user can also use existing hearing devices in conjunction with it. Hmm, not bad.. It also seems to have a t-coil feature available.

do you wear HAs? Most HAs come with telecoil, and if you do wear HAs i am surpised your didn't come with one. I know that some hear aids (well CI for the most part) you have to know the trick on how to turn on the telecoil because they don't have a telecoil switch.

what about bluetooth?

I got my HA around in '06, seems to be right around when bluetooth, telecoil wasn't that "big" of a thing yet. :|
I am still in the previous era of HA's, I think.

Maybe it would be worth upgrading instead of spending lots of money on extra little electronics that won't really work?

I will upgrade.. eventually. Tend to take a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to all the HA's I've had. It's not broken yet, nor has the quality downgraded into lackluster as of the moment.

But if the stuff gets good for recent technology, I'll eventually bite.

I did find one of those Williams units for very cheap, about $70+. Spent a little while looking at those ebay auctions and comparing them to other units on the market.
I am really skeptical of the cheap units "spy hearing device" "as seen on tv" "mini ear", but for this one I'm willing to try before passing judgment. I will let you guys know how it goes.

I remember the "T" switch (telecoil) as long as I remember. I think telecoil technology is a old technology. what is your HA model?
