iPhone troubleshoot--suddenly won't send or receive text msg.

Not sure where this person is but. . ..if on Verizon could it be connected to some network problems they have been having. My comment is based on this thread on a different forum Not receiving or making calls past 2 days. Help!! See Post 9 which is by a very knowledgeable dealer who's forum that is.

I had no problem with my Sprint iPhone 5 since Oct 2012. I use iCloud and iTune on my PC for synch my iPhone 5 for backup and restore.

Did your friend go to apple store? My daughters iPhone had problem with volume so they did replace the iPhone. It's less than two months and with sprint.

Not yet. We wanted to try all the other options first. The only Apple store in this area is downtown Charleston, which is not a convenient place to drive to or park at. :(

If that doesn't work I would try resetting the phone by holding both buttons until the phone powers down and the apple reappears. But the first one should work.
Didn't work.

yea it's just a soft reset. a simple reboot.

I had same issue. what I do is "restart" the connection with telephone company.

1. SETTINGS --> CELLULAR DATA --> ON/OFF again
2. SETTINGS --> MESSAGES --> iMESSAGE --> ON/OFF again and do same for SEND as SMS
3. Ensure that there are something in "SEND & RECEIVE"
Checked it; settings were correct. Still, no success. :(

We're in South Carolina. My friend's service provider is Sprint.

What I keep seeing on St. Louis TV (mainly for events) is to part at on outlying Metro station and take that the rest of the way. Don't know Charleston at all but would that be an option as a more convenient way to get there?

All those settings were correct. I can try again later. It's hard for me to contact my friend now to get together without driving over to meet. That's hard now, too, because my Jeep is in the shop (getting the AC replaced). So frustrating. I can't borrow TCS's Jeep because he's using it for work today. The water pump on his van broke this weekend, so he's using the Jeep for odd jobs in the meantime (try ordering parts and getting automotive repairs done on Memorial Day weekend).

Is the phone active otherwise? Were you (I realize you friend couldn't because of hearing) make voice calls for instance? Also, check about how many messages his/her plan allows. Could s/he have tried to go over.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check those two things next time. :ty:

I'm not an iPhone user myself, so this might seem like a stupid question:

How can I check the person's message limit? Is there something in settings that will show it? Like a properties view? (I'm such a right-click person, heh, heh.)

If not, maybe we can go to a Sprint branch and have them check it? (I'm T-Mobile myself, so again, new territory for me.)

I would think you could check plan allowances by phone or web site for any provider (T-Mobile, Sprint, etc) rather than needing a trip in to a store. If you can't call etc. on the troublesome phone use yours.

Call *3283#

They will send you a message.

But will the message come in? I thought the problem with the phone is NOT receiving text messages.

it's a good test. any message sent by a service provider doesn't count toward your text limit.

it's possible that he's not able to send/receive because he may have received the limit but that shouldn't be an issue because he will get charged for each message beyond the limit.

but if the message is sent via iMessage - it doesn't count toward text plan... only data.

Have your friend open up a AIM or some other messenger and use IP relay to call the providers tech support. If the phone has access to the web, but cannot receive text messages the problem is most likely the provider.

If the phone cannot get internet access, have your friend go into a local library, starbucks or other free internet provider and hook the iphone to the web through WIFI.

I asked someone at work about your question, his suggestion is apparently the reason you cant send texts is because your Service Centre number may be wrong.
*
Go to your phone number p and type
*#5005*7672# and press the call button
*
a number should come up on your screen, make a note of the number then
*
Go to your phone number pad and type
**5005*7672*the number you have been given# and press the call button
*
Now try sending your text again.
