Watching a video of Richard Feynman prompted a question in me.

For those of you who were born deaf how do you count numbers internally in your mind? I, for example, will use internal auditory and mentally say "one, two, three, four" and so on. But for those who have never heard them pronounced, do you see the numbers visually in your mind? And is this the same for words as well?

Feynman was able to count numbers in his mind and read at the same time. Yet he could not speak and count simultaneously. His friend said this was impossible. It turns out this friend was able to count numbers in his mind and speak at the same time. He said internally a ticker was ticking off the numbers in his mind and no auditory technique was being used.

I dont count. I just see numbers. I dont go .. 8, 9, 10, 11... It is just 14 to me.

I see little tin soldiers all lined up. They have numbers painted on their chests so I never lose count.

That's funny!!:laugh2: Or maybe I should say cute. I don't want you to think I'm making fun of you cause I would never do that.

A lot of hearing people count visually in their heads too, not just deaf/hoh people.

I can do both also, but 99% of the time I just remmy the number, not seeing it or signing it, but rather speaking it in my mind. Same thing for convos, names, etc.

P.S. (Never seen this question before!)....but it's interesting to know.

sometimes My dad asked me for numbers for his lottery when I had dreams of numbers. No win at all. :|

I see numbers dancing in my head when counting...J/k

Since I was raised orally so I guess I do it auditorially.
