I hope that will stop some people from addiction to some soft drinks that have those chemicals, shudders.

Have a look at the wrapper on a Coca-Cola 1.5 liter bottle and in the ingredients label you will find phosphoric acid in it. Minute quantities of ethylene glycol are also used (which is acknowledged in the soft drink world for making it really chill). This is popularly known as anti-freeze which prevents water from freezing at 0 deg C and instead drops it 4-5 degrees with minute quantities. This chemical is a known slow poison in the caliber of arsenic.

So, if you manage to drink about 4 liters of Coke within an hour or so, you can die. Read along and give up these dangerous things. Be natural; have flavored milks, tender coconuts, buttermilk, lassi and plain water instead of these "soft" drinks. Guess what's the pH for soft drinks, e.g. Coke? PH 3.4! This acidity is strong enough to dissolve teeth and bones! Our human body stops building bones at the age of about 30. Soft drinks do not have any nutrition value (in terms of vitamins & minerals). It is high in sugar content, carbonic acid, chemicals i.e. colorings etc.

Some like to take cold soft drinks after each meal. Guess what's the impact? Our body needs an optimum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius for digestive enzyme functioning. The temperature of cold soft drinks is very much below 37 degrees or even close to 0 degrees Celsius. This will dilute the enzymes & stress the digestive system. The food taken will not be digested. In fact it will be fermented! The fermented food produces gases, decays and becomes toxin, gets absorbed by the intestine, circulates in the blood st ream and is carried to the whole body. Hence toxin is cumulated in other parts of the body, developing into various diseases. Think before you drink coke/Pepsi (or any soft drink) again.

Have you ever thought what you drink when you drink an aerated drink? You gulp down carbon dioxide, when nobody in the world would advise you to drink CO2. Two months back, there was a competition at Delhi University "Who could drink the most Coke?" The winner drank 8 bottles and fainted on the spot-too much CO2 in the blood. Thereafter, the principal banned all soft drinks from the college canteen!

While this might have been an extreme measure, their results do provide some food for thought. Did you know that soft drinks use chemicals in them that cause immense harm to you. Someone put a broken tooth in a bott le o f Pepsi and in 10 days it DISSOLVED! Can you believe it? Teeth and bones are the only human parts that stay intact for years after death. Imagine what the drink must be doing to your soft intestines and stomach lining!

Eh, sorry, Sequoias. I'm not giving up soft drinks. It's true that there's a lot of chemicals in it. But, do you realize the QUANITY one would have to drink in order to truly be harmed by the substances? For instance, four liters is quite a LOT to consume at one time; even in an hour. A person would probably die from water intoxication if they drank that much in such a short amount of time. It would take a helluva lot to do damage, and our bodies are "hard wired" to recognize when we no longer thirst. The only way I can see this could be a problem is if a person were forced to drink a large quantity of liquids.

Not really. Well, I hate to say but I have to disagree with you :x For numbers of reasons, our body have certain 'mechanism' to store the 'bad' materials in our fat area to prevent the sugar or chemical 'shock'. So imagine... it builds up and store of these chemcials and sugar months after months and years after years of drinking in our bodies. There is a reason why people become sick/weak or get high fever or bad flu when they lose some weights in very short time or rapidly or through certain methods such as fasting for one week, only because lots of chemcials has been stored in their fat areas which releases through 'fat burning mechanism' due to fasting, exercises, certain diets, etc. Anyway, that's why diabetic and obesity become epidemic (even CDC labelled it as epidemic) as of lately... in 50 years ago, it is unheard for 8-14 years old kids to become diabetic but nowaday, it becomes common.

Yes, it is possible that there is another factor in that but what else beside highest consumption of drinking the sodas in 70s, 80s, 90s and millennium? It can be consider as 'parallel' effect. Here's evidences:

In 1942, when production of carbonated soft drinks was about 60 12-ounce servings per person, the American Medical Association's (AMA) Council on Foods and Nutrition stated:

From the health point of view it is desirable especially to have restriction of such use of sugar as is represented by consumption of sweetened carbonated beverages and forms of candy which are of low nutritional value. The Council believes it would be in the interest of the public health for all practical means to be taken to limit consumption of sugar in any form in which it fails to be combined with significant proportions of other foods of high nutritive quality.
Then...
By 1998, soft-drink production had increased by nine-fold (Figure 1) and provided more than one-third of all refined sugars in the diet, but the AMA and other medical organizations now are largely silent. This review discusses the nutritional impact and health consequences of massive consumption of soft-drinks, particularly in teenagers.
And also this (Figure 1):

Many more information about this (over 60 references): http://www.cspinet.org/sodapop/liquid_candy.htm

And I found another link which recently grabbed my attention:
There is a strong correlation between the rise in consumption of carbonated soda pop in the past 50 years and an increase in rates of esophageal cancer in the United States.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture data shows that the consumption of carbonated drinks rose by more than 450 percent, from 10.8 gallons on average in 1946 to 53 gallons in 2000. That translates to about two 12-ounce cans per day.

Currently white male teenagers drink an average of about one liter per day.

And over the past 25 years, the incidence of esophageal cancer has risen by more than 570 percent in white American men, particularly those in the highest socioeconomic classes.

Of course, I refuse to try to make you stop drinking. It is not my decision to make and I respect your choice as always but it does not matter if they are forced to drink the highest quantity of soda or not... Just that it will build up and store in our fat areas regardless of small or big quantity. Well, we can always agree to disagree :)

Hmmm, I honestly don't think so but you are on something though. Actually, fermented foods like... miso, sour cream, sauerkraut, kefir etc.. actually can accelerate the healing mechanism in our bodies. The rumors and evidences slowly emerged that fermented products, especially kefir can heal the cancer conditions.

I used to be a Dr. Pepper fan but no longer when I found out more about soda pops. It also often made my right kidney hurt whenever I drank the soda pop.. even if it is just one can. I am not a heavy soda drinker yet it affected me regardless. So I quitted and never have that problem ever again. Right now, I am a heavy milk drinker :)

Curious, where did you get that information from? I actually am interested in these information.

yeah, I know for a long time about this. Also my chlidren knows about this, too from school.

I am not the fan of soft drinks. I´m not crazy about them. I drink water, herb tea and milk mostly.

The people from public healthy department come to visit my children´s school and teach them about soft drink. 30 cubes of sugars include one bottle of any soft drink. :-o

You are a really smart guy, you should be a scientist or something. I got that info from e-mail from my friend. :) I have been trying to cut down drinking soda pop, I always know it's not good for you.

lol thanks. Ah... about email, I'd love to find some more information about that one.

Anyway, good luck with cut down drinking soda pop, it is not easy... It took me almost one month to break from addiction. But at that time, I was drinking only water so it was quite hard... now, it is quite easy because of milk and its natural 'sweet' taste.
