I got this in Email this morning.

Gives a person reason to appreciate our American Symbol more deeply.

The story of the eagle

e1zz1.jpg

The eagle has the longest life-span of its species

e2jp7.jpg

It can live up to 70 years,
but to reach this age, the eagle must make a hard decision in its' 40's.

e3du1.jpg

Its long and flexible talons can no longer grab prey which serves as food.

e4yr9.jpg

Its long and sharp beak becomes bent.

Its old-aged and heavy wings, due to their thick feathers, become stuck to its chest and make it difficult to fly.

Then, the eagle is left with only two options: die or go through a painful process of change which lasts 150 days.

The process requires that the eagle fly to a mountain top and sit on its nest.

There the eagle knocks its beak against a rock until it plucks it out.

After plucking it out, the eagle will wait for a new beak to grow back and then it will pluck out its talons.

When its' new talons grow back, the eagle starts plucking its old-aged feathers.

And after five months, the eagle takes its famous flight of rebirth and lives for 30 more years.

Wow 70 years lifetime for eagle?! Wow... Interesting, thank you for sharing! :)

Wow, great interesting this article! I love it. I should be spreading through to my families and friends via e-mail. Thank you! :)

A tough bird, that is why Bald Eagle are our great country's symbol, and is my most favorite wild animal.

The Eagle is very sacred to our people and to myself. The Eagle fly high to send the message from us to the Great Creator and the Eagle brings the message and harmony to our people. We have lot of respect for the Eagle among all our animals (brothers and sisters). We cherish the Eagle very much along with the four colors of our directions and pray to the Great Creator through the Eagle. If I happen to see the Eagle up in the Sky, that mean I will have a good and happy day and that the Great Creator is watching over us. No matter what tribes we come from, we always pray through the Eagle to bring message to our Creator. That is our tradition for thousand and thousand of years. The Eagle is very important to our native culture. My husband is Ojibwe and I am Cherokee/Cree, a lot more leaning on the Cree tradition. God is our Great Creator. So when I look at the pictures especially on the first picture it is very tranquil and peaceful, there is a piece of art for the Eagle to be among nature all around him. Yes, Eagle live a long time and have to go thorugh difficult time like in the Winter.

Totally agreed with you 100%. We do respect the Eagles! I've seen them at the zoo but not flying in the air. Someday I will see one!

This reminds me of last year we were reafting down Snake river near Jackson Hole and were privileged to see three different bald eagles. Before this I have never seen one in wild. It was quite an awsome experience.

Wow, that is very interesting, I would love to see a wild Bald Eagle one day.

Amazing for a Bald Eagle to make a decisions to carry on through painful processing or end their time.

Thank you for sharing this story about Bald Eagle.
