I need a little feedback.. By total communication, I am teaching a quilting class next week for both hearing and Deaf. I want to know what Deaf people in general would expect from this class.

Pretend you're about to take a quilting class that will last 4 sessions, 2 hours each...

  • What kind of quilt projects would you want to do?
  • What do you expect when you take the class?
  • How much experience do you have in sewing quilts?
  • Should you or the teacher provide the fabrics?
  • How hard or easy you want the quilting to be?
  • What designs you want to learn to do?
  • How do you want the syllabus and course curriculum be provided?? By paper or booklet?
  • Any comments or questions?

Thanks for your time and help!

HI!
I know you asked what Deaf people would expect from a class, but I am not Deaf. So, I hope that it's okay that I'm still giving you an opinion. I took a quilting class and really enjoyed it. We made a quilt that was made up of 6 squares, and each one was a different pattern. Some were really easy, and others were more of a challenge. Also, we needed to get our own fabric. I like the fact that we made this type of quilt because it allowed us to end up with a finished project, but we still got the experience of sewing different styles of blocks. I'm still really a novice, and you can probably tell by my lack of correct terminology  . However, I hope this helps. Good luck, and I hope you have a lot of fun with this class!

Thanks MissFancy!

Anyone else?? Hearing peeps can also take this survey! It would mean a lot to help me out by answering my short survey!

Any comments or questions?

Yes; Hellllp! :giggle:

Errrrrr....I don't know a thing about quilting!!! BUT I think I would be interested in learning how to make those heavy-duty cotton quilts...the ones that are soft, but very well padded so that it makes a nice winter comforter as well as a throw blanket that you can put on the bed for show.

Maybe for materials they can bring in old clothing, things that they don't fit into anymore or that used to belong to their child or a long lost relative - this would of course make the quilt far more meaningful and might inspire your students to do as best as they can in order to make a brand new family heirloom. :)

I'm sure you'll do a great job teaching. If you were in my neck of the woods, I'd definitely come check out the class. BUT ONLY if I can be the class clown. ;)

What kind of quilt projects would you want to do?
Probably a baby quilt or a wall hanging quilt for starters. Can't overjump to making quality quilts in first time.

What do you expect when you take the class?
Probably how to make basic stitches and what to do, when putting it all together. Once I understand how to make blocks, and put it together as a quilt, then explain how to make the borders, and how to stitch one side as to make it not visible.

How much experience do you have in sewing quilts?
None whatsoever

Should you or the teacher provide the fabrics?
I would rather to provide my fabric because I might have my own preferences of fabric patterns/colours

How hard or easy you want the quilting to be?
Doesnt matter to me, as long as instructions are explained very clearly with visual cues

What designs you want to learn to do?
I would love to learn something southwestern, or geometric patterns.

How do you want the syllabus and course curriculum be provided?? By paper or booklet?
I guess paper with diagrams on instructions for how to make quilt step by step would be good enough for me. If booklet, would expect to buy it myself, instead of receiving it from instructor for free.

ummm, I expect to be the best at making quilt if I don't then I want my $$ back LOL

How much experience do you have in sewing quilts?

Honestly, none ( I don't even know how to use my own sewing machine sad isn't it ? )

Should you or the teacher provide the fabrics?
