UPDATE 1-P&G set to buy Natura Pet Products
Wed, May 5 2010
* P&G to buy privately-held Natura Pet Products
* Sees deal closing in about a month
* Move expands P&G's pet food beyond Iams, Eukanuba
CHICAGO, May 5 (Reuters) - Procter & Gamble Co <PG.N> has signed a deal to buy privately held Natura Pet Products Inc, a move that will let the maker of Iams and Eukanuba products expand into the holistic and natural segment of the pet food market.
The acquisition may surprise some industry watchers who had wondered in the past if pet food was a business P&G would exit. The business, a relatively small one for P&G, has not performed as well as other parts of the consumer product maker's $79 billion portfolio.
Natura, based in Davis, Calif., sells products under the Innova, Evo, California Natural, Healthwise, Mother Nature and Karma brands in some specialty pet stores and through veterinarians, mainly in the United States and Canada.
P&G said it plans to close the acquisition of Natura, which has about 140 employees, in a month or so. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Last week, P&G reported a 6 percent drop in quarterly organic sales of snacks and pet care items, which strip out the impact of acquisitions, divestitures and foreign exchange rates. The snacks and pet care business, which also includes the Pringles brand, was the company's only unit to post a decline in organic sales. (Reporting by Jessica Wohl; editing by Andre Grenon)

Keep an eye on the ingredients before buying Innova, EVO, California Natural, Healthwise, Mother Nature and Karma; Procter and Gamble, the manufacture of Iams and Eukanuba, has a tendency of turning bought-out quality pet brands into garbage ones.

Technically, you should always read the ingredients before buying ANYTHING, but I suppose there are people out there who have blind faith in the brands of their choice.

 souggy, AGREE :ty: for posting...on a dog forum I'm on, someone juts put this up. I feed my guys raw and so haven't used kibble or cans in years. Am not surprised about this change but disappointed for those who use it.

Lucky.

I wish I could get my ferret to go on the raw diet. The idea of frozen mice and rabbits with a ferret... doesn't appeal to me.

I will leave that home-feeding duty to the reptiles... less messy that way.

I imagine you know ferrets nutritionally have very high protein requirements, like a cat, as opposed to the more opportunistic dog.
yeah it can get messy. Sometimes in Summer I throw carcasses out in the yard for the dogs to "hunt"<though my 12 yr. old has actually hunted and caught rabbits, mice and possum in the yard>; sometimes I feed in crates or on the hard kitchen floor. But overall blood and stuff just comes with it, for me, rather do what best for the dogs than worry about it.

:)

Have you tried feeding chicken necks to your dogs? Works wonders. Seriously.

 Dixie, asking me?
chicken necks tend to be too small for my adults. I use duck or turkey necks with them and sometimes ostrich; may use chicken necks for the 4 month old.
Have also used chicken carcasses, turkey backs and other things.

I agree... definitely after what happened with their latest diaper release... the Pampers Dry Max. :Ohno:
