I Want A Motorcycle...

So far, I'm kinda looking at honda. Not sure what exactly, but I'm looking.... and drooling... might need a bucket.

Jiro, penny for your thoughts?
Scooters - Honda Powersports

I am not normal with the gas powered moped scooters/motorcycles but I understand that California doesn't want any newer 2 stroke engines that use in moped scooters due to strict emission because the 2 stroke engine can emits lot hydrocarbon (HC), this amount of the HC is equal to a 1980ish domestic car with a V8 engine. I hope you find a good moped scooter with 4 stroke engine like a Honda scooter that you mentioned. Stay away older moped scooter w/ 2 stroke engine. Good luck.

My other choice I think would be (if I go for a motorcycle) either a Honda Rebel, NightHawk or a kawasaki Ninja

Have you considered a yamaha FZ6 its got a comfortable riding position and more then enough power to keep you entertained

Ok guys, went to a cycle shop and the guys were awesome there. Saying I can sit on the bikes or scooters.... as long as I make motorcycle notices :P

Man most of the BMW and Triumph motorcycles were monstrous! didn't dare look at that way lol

So I looked at the scooters, they had Piaggio and Vespa? not sure if I'm saying it right.
They are all really nice but I'm not sure if its something I'd want.

This is the Honda that would go for. This is my ideal (stylewise) that I'd want.

But who knows, anyone who has a scooter before clue me in if you've had these models, did you like or not like?

Or if you were in my shoes what would you get?

That looks nice and looks like fun. If you like it, I would check and see what the maintenance involves. Find out how much it would cost to maintain it just to make sure you can afford it or able to do it yourself if you wish.

It all comes down on if you feel comfortable when sitting on it. Ask if they will let you ride it around parking lot and see if you like it.

Sorry can't help you much there. I've never ridden scooter but would love to try it out :)

Piaggio... that's what NYPD uses. What I can suggest is that you search craigslist (For Sale --> Motorcycles) to see if there's anybody nearby selling scooters similar to what you want so that you can test-ride it. Many dealerships don't let you test-ride it but it doesn't hurt to ask your dealership.

Do dealers require a customer to have a license and/or insurance before taking a test ride?

Customer would need a valid driver's license. It is probably related to insurance requirements and other reasons.

The dealer would normally have their own insurance. I never heard of it happening another way.

If it can go that fast, why isn't it street legal, nevermind freeway?
It may not meet other requirements. Keeping up with the pace of traffic is only one aspect of a legal vehicle.

just license but I'm assuming that she gets licensed before she test-ride.... I hope

I don't know. That's what the webpage ad said. It's not legal in a few states, and CA was one of them. It might have to do with emissions.

From the ad:

"Street Legal: This scooter for sale is registerable as a street legal vehicle in 47 states not including CA, NJ, PA."

your right. but if she went with 2010 SH150i it would be carb california complaint. I had elite model, it was ok, like i said before, it wasnt fast enough to go on highways.

as of last year - inspection and emission test are no longer required for motorcycles in NJ. maybe it will soon be legal in NJ??? :dunno:

Any new small gas powered engines such as moped scooters or lawnmowers or engine replacements, are marketing in California, must have C.A.R.B. approved (california air resources board) and doesn't require smog check (emission inspection).

Just remember, when considering this....

While bikes can be fun, it can also be dangerous. Without the protection of "armor" surrounding your body, you're open for a world of a hurt. So practicing safety is job one and being aware of your surroundings is also equally job one.

Helmets is a must, don't buy a cheap one. Invest a really super good helmet that can not only protect your head, but also withstand major impacts. Having a helmet that can split on impact is a very bad thing.

I recall my mother telling me a story whereas she was in the hospital for some major medical problem and had to stay overnight. While she was there, she could hear screams from someone in a very severe pain. She initially thought it was someone not far from her room. Turns out the screams was coming from the other wing of the hospital. That pretty far.

She made some inquiries (long before medical disclosure was made illegal today) and this poor guy was in a motorcycle accident. He can around a corner too fast to see a 18 wheeler backing out into the street. He tried to "slide" underneath the trailer, but he didn't drop down fast enough and his crown got caught into a steel wire that you would see underneath those trailers. It took the top of his skull off and he was wearing a cheap helmet. His brain was exposed.

No pain medication could dampen the pain he was experience, it was so bad that he died overnight.

She said she'll never forget the screams that went on all night, she'd have nightmares every now and then, even something a sound that would trigger her memory.

I'm just saying this cuz I care and want to see everyone practicing safety and be safe always.

So yeah, go have fun having a bike, but please be safe while you're at it.

RIDE ON!

Yiz
