Raven, I did suggest that you take your mother to a local SHHH or ALDA group meeting or a deaf center to meet other late deafened adults to help her realize that you CAN DO IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but i still got mixed feelings here though.. cuz things/times have changed so much.. since OUR TIME... (30 YRS)..

when my parents first found out i was deaf at the age of 6 months.. the dr in nyc told my parents i was mentally retarded OTHER THAN being deaf.. my dad HIT THE CEILING, PUSHED THE DR TO THE WALL AND ALMOST BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF THE DR.. imagine that??? .. i was like whoa.. lol.. but my parents refused to GIVE UP ON ME.. AND WANTED THE BEST FOR ME.. they didn't believe in ASL, DEAF SCHOOL, ETC..
now that i look back.. i HAVE NO REGRETS AT ALL.. except for two things.. i wish i had more SUPPORT (INTERPRETERS, ETC AND SAME PEERS as i was the only deaf in the school! ugh)

so speaking of raven, since i have been in AD as of december, i haven't seen him do anything to MAKING ANY EFFORTS AT ALL!?!?!!!????? all he does is whine, complain.. etc.. i have seen other member make the efforts even though it was SCARY AS HELL OR TOUGH for them.. know what i mean.. he is making it out AS IF IT IS THE END OF THE WORLD.. AND FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN SO FAR... HE LOVES/WANTS PITY.. .. AND IT IS SO OBVIOUS THAT HE DOESN'T WANT TO TRY TO DO IT ON HIS OWN... AM I MAKING SENSE????

i don't know.. this just bothers me.. i am sorry.. we have tried to reinforce him.. he still continues to rant, etc.. he just seems not WILLING TO TRY IT FOR HIMSELF.. WHY DEPEND ON HIS MOM.. WHY CAN'T HE PROVE HIS MOM WRONG!?????????????? SHEESH!!! THIS REALLY BOTHERS ME.. (SIGH)

I do hear you but Im referring to the insults on his own mother.

We cannot attack his mother who is defenseless. We only hear one story here. Remember it is all new to Raven and his parents too. It takes a few years before they get over denial. What his mother needs is resources and meet late deafened adults.

I just dont see any reason to attack his mother - that is all - when she is not here to defend herself.

then why can't he show his mom this forum?? and all that?? take her to meetings like some member suggested such as SHH, etc?? what is STOPPING HIM?? HMMMM....... unless he is SCARED SHITLESS of her??? this is what i am trying to understand..... (sigh)

EDIT: whats more.. his mom is not gonna be around FOREVER.. what will happen to him when HER TIME COMES!????? that worries me..

The way I look at it is if someone is employed at their job and suddenly they lost their hearing and are fired because they don't hear any more that is a clear case for discrimination and RS would have been able to either get his job back or have a different job at the same pay where his hearing doesn't factor.
