Today, I went to see the allergist to learn the results from the blood work. Before I saw him (the allergist), the nurse took my blood pressure and she discovered it was high! :jaw: :Ohno: Then, she left the room to get a different to measure my heartbeat and she also discovered it was high! :jaw: :Ohno: Then, my mom made an appointment with my primary care physician tomorrow morning before my classes at school. Wish me luck tomorrow morning! I will keep you updated tomorrow.

Could the high numbers due to working too many hours at the store and the stress of college?

Normally, a doctor won't diagnose high blood pressure on the basis of one or two readings. Many people's blood pressure rises just from the stress of going to the doctor's office. It's called "white coat syndrome."

If you don't have any other symptoms, the doctor will probably tell you to monitor your pressure at different times of the day for a week or two, so he can get a more accurate picture of your pressure.

I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow. If you truly do have high blood pressure, be glad that you found out before it was too late.

:gpost:

This is true. If she truly does have HBP, it is much better to be diagnosed before a castrophic event like a heart attack or stroke happens. Incidently, if the diagnosis does pan out, there are many good medications that are used to treat high blood pressure.

Whoa.. i hope you will have a full c heck up to ensure you dont have any underlying disease or anything like that.. its better to have it checked out before too late.. Good luck.. We will think of you! :)

SJCSue, I regret to hear about your undiagnosed hypertension. I think it's best way to lower your blood pressure are:
1. Following a healthy eating pattern (limited red meat consumption). Eating plenty of oatmeals and drinking plenty of orange juices are the best.
2. Reducing salt and sodium in your diet
3. Becoming a physically fit
4. More exercising
5. Limiting alcohol intake (no more than 2 drinks a day for men and one for women)

Hope they work out for you...

1. I have been trying to eat healthier for a while. I have been drinking orange juice every morning at school. :ty: God that orange juice is on sale at my store this week.
2. I have been watching my sodium intake for a few days and I have not had a headache (my warning sign).
3. Currently, I have no motivation to start walking in order to be physically fit.
4. I have no motivation.
5. I do not drink alcohol very often even though I am 21.
