I tried out my old hearing aid today i heard loud but not clear. Once my clarity gets back up 80% - 90% again just maybe i can hear again. Its just a theory. What does everyone think about that?

what are u talking about???...can u clarify this a bit more clearly?
I wear hearing aid too and i hear sounds too but not clearly but thats normal really.

Perhaps when you get more adjusted to wearing it, the clarity of the sounds you do hear will generally get better as time progresses....Hope you'll feel some satisfaction out of using your old hearing aids!

Yeah, it's very common for others to hear loud sounds coming from their hearing aides...that is the reason why I don't wear my hearing aide anymore cause it bothers me a great deal....

It would be nice to hear real sounds instead of hearing a bunch of noises that I have no clue where its coming from ....

Try to turn your hearing aides a bit down and see what happens whether you can hear the sounds a bit more clearly than loud noises in the background....

I heard there's new hearing aides that are out there should be a bit more helpful then the old types that we used to wear.....Try and see by comparing them....

Oh the digitals right? I think it depends. I believe that top of the line analogs can be just as good as digitals! I wear Phonaks and used to wear Siemens and the difference between the two brands is nothing short of amazing!
You may also want to experiment and see if a body worn aid might be able to give you more power. Yes, I know that allegedy they can make ear level aids as powerful as the old body worn type, but I wonder......Especially since I had a personal experiance with using ITE aids. I totally thought I could hear with them....and I could, but not as well as with BTEs. I only have a moderately severe conductive loss, and the difference between ITEs and BTEs in terms of power is damn amazing! So I'd think that the difference between an ear-level aid and a body worn aid at least for some people, would be amazing!

yea deafdyke -- also if the hearing place will allow like 30 days trial period before changing to another would also be good as well -- many plces allow it i think

Clarity is a part in your inner ear that allows you understand words. If your hearing is bugged cant understand speech thats your clairty. A hearing aid cannot work untill that part of your hearing is up. Ever been to your audiologist and they say your clarity is below 50% you didnt understand and heard the words right as being said. So thats my theory,,When it gets back up to around 85% or higher i might hear fine again.

Clarity? You mean word discrimination don't you? There ARE hearing aids which can improve word discrimiation. (I mean there are profoundly and severely deaf people who are functionally hoh with hearing aids) I think that yes, there are people who do well(eg have good clarity levels) with traditional ear level analog aids, but I also think that if you don't get good hearing/clarity etc with those aids, you should explore other types of aids, like body-worn, digitals, transponders or even tactile aids!

I have worn a widex BIE.I had 45% hearing left now i only have 20%-10% left My hearing is still ringing with roaring tones. BIE cannot improve clairty even 8% clairty left. I hear birds all kinds of sounds perfectly even spoken speech perfectly. Now its still going down even as i speak :tears:

Tintinitus? Ugh!!!!! I do think if you have a progressive loss (eg aids were useful once) that you should go for the CI, since you were a good hearing aid user, but aids aren't useful any more. However, I do think that surgery should be a last resort sort of thing. You may have the type of loss that responds well to other kinds of aids....and I would strongly, strongly suggest that you experiment and see what's best for you. I have heard that the CI can significently ameirorate tinintus...and that would be good for you. I have tinintus sometimes, and it drives me insane sometimes!
