I applied for one many months ago and now they are wanting to set up an appointment to install. I am a technical person but I don't know much about the VP. So if anyone can help, I appreciate it. I do have high speed internet and I am guessing that the device will connect to the network. What I don't know is if I need a TV or do they provide a screen. Also, can you talk directly to others without going through a terp? Allthough my ASL is not so good I would like to use the VP to talk to deaf friends that use ASL so I can learn more.. Any insight is appreciated.

Thank you :ty:

The VP Installer will do it for you. Keep eye on her/him and how it hook up etc..it's fairly easy! :) Have fun!

You will need a router (wireless or hard-wired)....they should give you router free (unless you want the wireless kind). The cable modem will be hooked up to the router then from router to VP...that's all to it....

Thank you all but nobody answered my question about making calls to others without going through a terp. Is this possible?

Yes, you can make direct calls to other people that have VP without using the terp. It is called direct to direct contact. You can call them either using their VP number or IP addy (depending what VP they have like...with Sorenson, just use VP phone number and with others....IP addy). Hope that answers your ?

Yes it does, thank you ... Now all I need is some other friends that have VP. I don't know anyone yet.

Are you Hearing?
yes I am hearing with a deaf child who is 10 and profoundly deaf. This is why I applied for the VP on his behalf.

The installer should be training you on how it works, like how to make point to point calls, how to make calls through the interpreter (VRS Calls), and basically everything you need to know about the VP-100.

Thanks to you all for your help.. My VP will be installed today. PM me if you don't mind chatting with me on the VP. Remember that I am hearing and my ASL is still comming along but signing with others will help me in that regard.

Woo Hoo.!!! I got my VP installed and working yesterday with the help of a great guy from Sorenson that did the install. Now I just have to figure out how to get my linksys firewall back into the picture. And ofc, I need to find others that have VP. It's way cool!

Congrats... I don't have one (by choice).

Try DeafVP.com - you can get yourself listed in there. You can have your phone number hidden on that list.
