Your obviously not hearing impaired ..... :cool2:

Hearing Impaired LOL

Actually , from what I understand Jiro learned ASL pretty late in life.

Right..if they feel that their communication or access needs arent being met, then they need to speak out. If not, then they are contributing to the problem.

Actually, if you take away an ASL interpreter and only provide CC ... who screams then?

so . capital D deafies are the righteous ones?

Deaf people will because we will speak up. If oral deaf dont speak up, then they are allowing the problem to continue.

If an oral deaf person wants me to petition for CC, sure I will in a minute but nobody has asked me.

Jiro asked a good question..did Six Flags intentionally not provide CC or not? I dont know so I cant answer that but it is a good awareness to have.

yes. 2 years ago.

I think if we see that other deaf/Deaf or hoh are having problems and if that problem is factual and pointed out to us then we should support one another. Alldeaf. I think that together we can hope and try to better our lives and the lives of others imho.

And people accuse the big D of dividing the demographics...

Yet look at the wrecking ball Steinhauer brought. :/

I dont get it...is this a thread to put down Deaf people? If so, then we are not uniting together to combat this problem. I am more than happy to help tackle this problem but I wont help those who insult me and many of my friends for no reason.

see? another bad habit of asking a silly hypothetical question :)

did they willfully and knowingly ignore us?

how is this my problem?

No shit. There's a Korean grocery store that used to I love going to. Not everything is labelled in English. When I asked for a translation, he helped me out. He apologized and explained that he doesn't get a lot of English-speakers; there was no demand for it.

The next time I came back? Everything was labelled in English.

This thread was to highlight a glaring gap found at Six Flags, namely they miss the larger demographics of people with hearing loss that do not use or know sign language on a day they proudly proclaim "Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness Day." If they truly believe in raising that awareness then they should've hired a better person who'd understand communication needs for those who know sign language or don't.

yea I know, right?

koko and I'm sure other deafies have brought this to their attention about providing CC service for deaf non-signers. Now let's wait and see what they say before we scream hypocrisy and discrimination.

If you, oral deaf people, want equal access to those deaf/hoh awareness day, then speak up. If you ask for my help in a nice way, I will be more than happy to help. Maybe not all Deaf people will be as willing but not all Deaf people will be as unwilling.

Making blanket statements does not help this problem.

Party of Blaming. wonderful.

What about late deafened adults? Do you suggest they learn to Sign and communicate that way only?

Not a bad idea if they did, then deaf people can talk to them.

But no, they don't have to learn sign languages, nor ASL deaf should do all the advocating for them when they have their own battle to worry about (like making sure they have an ASL interpreter there). I mean, I don't see Oral-only HOH/deaf advocating for ASL interpreter for the ASL deaf when they have their own problems to worry about. This doesn't mean neither support each other. It just mean that only people who know what works for themselves have to speak out what they need to get other people to listen (yes, even get support from deaf people who use ASL to join in their fight). Again this doesn't mean none of them support each other.

Shel never said she doesn't support Captioning.

Wouldn't captioning work for all Deaf-deaf-hard of hearing people? Isn't written language something they all can understand?

Because he's living in a English majority population. Suppose a German speaking person comes in and what help but doesn't know English or Korean? It was more of an opportunistic move than anything else.

initially when not everything was labelled in English, did you accuse him of hypocrisy and discrimination?
