two people, yes that's a lot - TWO people are telling me I should choose my battles carefully ... so I am, in this community, asking you people what I should do about this deaf-can't-do discrimination?
here's what happened .. when I and my (now) fiance went out on cruise vacation last week - one we went on had to be re-routed due to the hurricanes so all excurisons (dolphin watching, horseback riding, parasailing, etc.) we reserved in advance were cancelled.
since we were enroute going to two detour islands - we wanted to reserve a couple off-island activities in advance (riding on ATV and jet waverunners) before standing in a long line .. one agent at the guest relations desk (on the ship) said they had to call the tour operator . . . then finally got back to us and said "they cannot guide you."
what?? I am sorry? why not?
you see, 12 shore/land excurisons we reserved and paid for, NEVER had to have 'tour operator''s permission if 'disabled' should go or whatnot. so I immediately asked to speak with his supervisor .. came he then asked us if we have our driver licenses .. and chuckled at our writing complaints at how they shouldn't be treating us like this.
I then asked for HIS supervisor - before he the senior supervisor came, he had a little talk with two previous people we spoke with, at last told us "sorry, it's full." (full of bullcrap). it WAS available (it said so on the TV), until two hours later of all these insulting arguments.
first, why did they had to call tour operator to see if 'disabled people' (us) could come on tours ..
so here now, today, I'm thinking how to address this discrimination? because this is totally wrong, we are NOT incapablity of doing anything and this shouldn't happen again the next time we go on that ship. to lessen the confusion, it's a great company but a few idiots need to be trained.
and what's funny? in the end they told us we could only pick three [of those] tours out of about 30 on the list .. that we can get on without interpeters... but guess what, one we went ahead and picked out (weren't in enegry to fight that day) eventually DID needed interpreters all way! they talked and talked and talked....we actually wasted our money.
(to make this a little bit clear, we did not have interpreters on that ship) ..
