How old were you all when you got your first HA's CI?

No, I live in the West Midlands.

HA's 9,
CI 30.

The batteries are posted to me, 2 boxes of 120 batteries every 2 months without question! I use those batteries for my HA aswell. Couldn't be arsed to go back to NHS hospital. Useless! I haven't been there since i got refered to CI centre back in september 2007, very glad to see back of them but i liked my ENT though but the audi was pants, the hearing therapist was shit! the open clinic system was rubbish and completely waste of time.
I recycle the batteries, i take them back to the ci centre.
 
The CI centre never asks me for the batteries back and iv been told to throw them....

I agree that the open clinic system is rubbish. I went there during the easter holidays to get my right HA seen to, as I didn't want to miss any time off uni. They said you'll have to have an appointment and come back, so I missed time off uni after all.
 
Why were Hearing Aids like that back in the old times?
 
I suppose the components were too large to fit into a small case like BTEs.

We were 'lucky' he failed his newborn hearing test 3 times, and at 6 mo his ABR showed the loss... so we were able to aid him as soon as we could. This way too he just thinks they're a part of him and not so much a device~ I'm glad he was able to get them so early too
 
Yes, newborn hearing screening is probably the best thing to have!

I didnt miss those box hearing aids when i swapped to BTE's when I was about 6 years old

I sympathise your problem as i went through similar.

Their open clinic was mondays, wednesdays, fridays, 1pm to 4pm!!! EVERYTIME i went I had to miss afternoon work thus loss of pay, I arrive like 12.30 in order to get in the line, arrive.... oh boy it was FULL of old folks!!, I feel bit embarrassed being only young in a room full of old peeps! Waited Waited Waited when it reached 4pm the clinic closes and i haven't been seen, i had no HA's since they were not working at all!, tried again few times in same week i wasn't seen at all, the receptionist said sit down and wait for your turn even i explained to them that i have been there 3 times this week (monday weds and fri) and i work, I am trying to earn a living and I BLOODY need my HA's, Oh okay i'll make you an appt... guess what... 8 wonderful weeks wait. I flipped. Told them I NEED HA's and refused to move. They eventually gave in and gave me spare HA's. Never went back again.
 
My clinic is always full of old folk. I wear my hair so it mostly covers my HAs, and they look at me like 'What are you doing here?'
 
When i got HA's at 9 the box is compatiable with the HA's i used to have them plugged into my HA's bit like FM system until i was 11 i was box free! yay! Very glad to see that box gone!

My hearing was too profound for HA's at the time it was 80's.

We probably had different boxes for hearing aids.

Yes thats the one of the reasons i am dreading to go to the hospital's audiology dept.
But I will only go if necessary cos I heard that you dont have regular hearing tests there so ill go when my ha is broken or need batteries

Are you transferring from child to adult services? If so, you'll probably never get your hearing tested, unless you tell them that you have a problem. I had hearing tests all the time as a child, as soon as you go to adult services you don't get a test for years!
 
Yes I am, they didnt transfer me sooner as it is easier for me to go there and I was still in education. I have one more hearing test ofr my HA in may
