Medicaid usually pays for almost everything, and no premium to pay, comparing to Medicare where you have to pay 85 dollars a month premium plus 20% co-pay for any doctor visit. RX coverage really varies but you STILL have to pay for it, while Medicaid pays 99% of them.

LuciaDisturbed said:Actually, if you qualify as very low income, you can have your medicare premiums paid for by the state. Mine are.
Oceanbreeze said:That kind of also depends, too. I'm on FL Medicaid.
FL Medicaid pays for inpatient medical care, doctors visits. They also pay for durable medical equipment, but they also decide what they won't pay for, too.
They decide what drugs they will pay for, and what drugs they won't. If they won't pay for a drug, then the consumer has to pay out of pocket. Sometimes, they will pay, but you need pre-authorization before they will. That usually takes three days to get.
Last year, I was sick with a serious infection, and was prescribed an antibiotic. FL medicaid made me wait THREE days before they approved this medication. By then, my fever was increasing, and I was going down hill. On the day of the approval, I ended up in the hospital. The infection had entered my blood stream and I was nearly critical.
In the hospital, I got the medications that I needed, and as you can see, I'm fine now. But, medicaid coverage is NO panacea, believe me.
diehardbiker65 said:No, that is not what I mean, with medicaid you don't have to pay much out of your pocket. With Medicare, you'd be paying much more than you would realize! 20% of doctor fees that you have to pay each time!!! You don't pay any co-pay to doctor with medicaid. The rules on what medicaid and medicare pays for, really pretty much similiar.
The only negative about medicaid is that they aren't "out-of-state" friendly! What it means is that if you were visiting your friends or relatives in other states and got emergency needs and end up in emergency room, your pretty much on your own! Medicaid WON'T pay a penny! Medicare, can go anywhere in the USA.
What you have explained is indeedly correct.LuciaDisturbed said:I don't have any copays for doctor visits under Medicare but I think that is because I qualify as low income so they are paid for, and also because Medicaid picks up the rest. But for meds on Plan D (new) I have a $1 to $3 co pays which isn't too bad.

I dont know about having SSI and getting medicare or medicaid which would be new info. for me. I know if you are on SSDI in california, you can get both medi-cal and medicare. Thats all I know.![]()
