VHS tapes coverted to DVD?

The title should say it all. Is there a quick (or at least, relatively easy) way to do this? All I have is an old VCR with a bunch of old tapes that I'd like to convert to DVD. Is there a good way to do this? Anything I need to buy? I've got about 10 tapes or so I'd like to convert. A local photo store wanted $39.99 to convert ONE tape.

Yeah, They're expensive nowaday.

What you can do... There are several ways for you to copy VCR to DVD Recorder. If you are copying VCR Movies, you'll have problem copying cuz of Macromedia Protection that cause the video goes scrambled like screen become bright then blacken then bright repeatly preventing copying. If you want to copy PERSONAL VCR tapes, then you're in luck.

For computer:

2nd, Get a Graphic card with VIVO and can records video to DVD or hdd. It may cost $$ averaging $100 and up.

3rd, Get a TV tuner card like Happaugh or any brand that have CC built in and able to record video to DVD, then you'll be fine. Remember that TV tuner have automatic stabilizer to maintain video quality from VCR if Macromedia Protection is enabled. It usually $25 and up. I've never tried that cuz I don't own any TV Tuner card anyway..

For Camera:

4th. Maybe lousy way to copy is use DVD or flashmemory Video camera and record it on TV with CC on while playing VCR as long is it look good and you can't make changes after recording  If it's a flashmemory type Video camera, you'll have to transfer and burn it to DVD-R

5th, IF you still insist that you want movie into DVD, either buy dvd movies from Ebay or any store that offer sale cheap. If you don't want to spend $$ on DVD movies to replace VCR.. Go on next step..

6th, PM me cuz I got more to say.. :thumb:

Thread's merged.

How much would a VHS/DVD recorder/dubber cost? I really only wanted to convert about 10 tapes. Maybe not even that many. All are personal (like from when I was a kid), no copyrighted movies, etc.

You might want to checkout Walmart or any store. Usually between $120 to $200 depending what brand. Some VCR/DVD combo can "cross record" so You can copy VCR to DVD-R itself. You'll have to check the box or info Online and to find out if it can do.

There are services that do this. They cost like $50 per 2 hours of vhs video that is converted.

Here is one place I found that offers this: VHS to DVD Conversion - We Convert VHS to DVD

I think it would be cheaper just to buy a vhs player, dvd burner, and video capture card all if you do not already have that. You can get a video capture card and dvd burner both for like $55 dollars. Check http://www.pricewatch.com/

The vhs player you can get at walmart, salvation army, or the goodwill for like $20-$30 dollars. All in all that's still cheaper then what these services charge to copy over just one vhs tape.
