How can you say I am not who I say I am without knowing me?

My biggest problem with not hearing, maybe because i'm used to hearing, is that I have no clue what's going on around me. If i'm in the house I can sometimes feel people walking but like at Walmart today, I didn't know if someone was behind me or coming towards us from the outer isles. I just can't hear what's going on.

I can communicate with my family fairly well, but not if its more than one.
I still have many other problems other than just no hearing.[/QUOTE]

That is what we have been attempting to get across to you.

Read on a bit, you'll see the problems I was referring too. i wasn't talking about any emotional or psychological issues.

I think in your lifetime you will indeed meet up with other deaf people who do not like CIs. It's a deaf culture thing. ("If you're deaf, why bother trying to do something about it? Enjoy, embrace life as it is ...") that type of attitude. For most of us on this board, I don't think we begrudge those who do get CIs. We begrudge the audist attitude that comes with it. I'm not necessarily singling out a single person who has that attitude, I'm speaking generally. We've been told by people that our (the deaf posters on this board who have been deaf a long time, for the most part) experiences are no longer valid because things aren't the same today. For us, our experiences were tough, but they made us who we are.

If one cares to do the checking, I was actually very supportive of the OP's decision to get a CI. I only began to be non-supportive when the audist attitudes began to manifest.

Thank you. :ty:

This simply could have been addressed in PM. The fact that the OP posted this indicates that he's an attention whore. Where's a facepalm when a girl needs one, eh?

Doing it in PM would have taken way to many messages and I was told not to PM the main culprits.. it was more than a two party situation.

Mod note:

Ok people, I think that is enough and it has gone far enough.
