homosexuality and the bible

Before I start, I know what you're thinking: "Not another thread like this." I'm only simply wanting to state a quick view that I have and hopefully this will stay a civil discussion. To the beligerent posters out there who let their passion get in the way of their judgment; please stay out of this. I have no time for people with no respect, and I refuse to acknowledge any such posts. Ok, so here goes. *rubs hands together*

If you hold the view that homosexuality is sinful, then it is likely you are familiar with the couple of verses that make said references. Particularly, Leviticus 18: 22, Leviticus 20:13, and I Corinthians 6:9. These are the most often used verses when arguing against homosexuality. In Leviticus, an obvious book of Law, I've previously posted concerning the selectivists who choose only certain laws to follow. Leviticus 19 states:

19 " 'Keep my decrees.
" 'Do not mate different kinds of animals.
" 'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
" 'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.

27 " 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

28 " 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

These are select verses I've picked out that are often not kept, and in fact, have become common practice today. Shaving our beards, cutting our hair.wearing clothes made of more than 1 material, getting tattoos. These are all forbidden according to the book of Leviticus. And also, according to James 2, we anyone who stumbles at just 1 point is guilty of breaking God's law.

8If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself,"[a] you are doing right. 9But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11For he who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder."[c] If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

This includes the sins that are common practice today. Shaving every morning, wearing that cotton-poly blend shirt, and, yes, homosexuality. I'm sure by now, my point is clear. Jesus is famously quoted in John 8:7,

"If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

And of course, we are told not to judge other people in Matthew 7:

1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Why is this? Because judgement is God's role. Not ours. Until we are sinless, and keep God's law to a "T," we have no place to try and show others what they're doing wrong.

I'll skip to my next point, since I'm sure my latter point has already been dually noted. I think many pro-homosexual Christians are afraid to face I Corinthians 6:9, because of its bluntness. I'm about to try and add a new perspective to this verse, and hopefully get some constructive feedback. I Corinthians 6:9 states:

9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

The words I have made bold are all identities. A label, if you will. A title for a sinner. Most importantly, earthly identities. Once we are saved by God's word, we lose our earthly identities. This past March, I had the opportunity to see Tim Price speak on this issue. He referred to 2 Corinthians

17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

His interpretation of this verse is that once we accept Christ, our earthly identities are no more. We are to be known as followers of Christ, disciples, Christian. Whichever word you feel best describes one who has recieved salvation. To support this idea, he referred back to Phillipians 3.

19Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. 20But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Therefore, we no longer belong to this earth, or its titles, but to heaven. All those titles that are applied in I Corinthians 6:9 are no longer ours, because we have been claimed as Christ's own.

I realize there is a lot to follow, and I'm still grasping the whole concept myself, but I felt like sharing this interpretation, and hoping to get some feedback from the more respectful members. Let me know what you think. I probably will have to clarify some of these points, due to the lack of explanation.

I have answered all the above in previous posts, again and again, so I guess there is no point in repeating myself. Apparently no one reads them or they ignore them, and I don't wan't to become "beligerent", so I will "stay out of this."

Exactly! I mean there ARE some sins that are obviously blatently sins for which we CAN judge; stealing, greed, murder, abuse, incest etc etc.
Homosexuality is sort of like the "sin"/rule that women shouldn't be pastors or speak out in church....an AMBIGIOUS unclear "sin". I have TONS of friends who are devout Christians, (a lot from deonominations that look on homosexuality as a sin) and THEY think that the Bible isn't totally clear on whether or not homosexuality is a sin. It's not just a crazy libral Unitarian hippy type here!
And I mean......homosexuality may be a sin according to some people's interpretation of the Bible, but what about the lost books of the Bible....the Aprocrphea (or however you spell it) ? Do they have wisdom and words not in mainstream Bibles?

*Not impressed with Netrox's disrespectful come-backs.*

I am not worry about homosexual people because I know Jesus Christ as of what He did with me and I know He would do same with them when the time is right. It goes same for everyone who are "lost" into this world. I leave gay people alone in the hand of God because I trust Him completely. I do not like to hear from other Christians being so hateful toward to those people. It makes me sick in my stomach when I read here about them and attack them over again and again. To me they are lost in true with God Jesus Christ Himself.
