What are your best home remedies for sunburn? My mother always told me to put vinegar on a sunburn, but I am sunburnt in a major way and all out of vinegar. Shops aren't open until morning. So what else is there in the way of relief from the searing pain of a major sunburn?

My shoulders, neck and I thank you in advance!

Brown paper bag ...wet with vinegar...pat gently on the burn. The vinegar zaps out the heat.

It's morning now! Most people don't know the trick of using vinegar is the brown paper bag, which is why I posted my 2 cents. ;)

When all else fails, aspirin for the pain. It also has anti-inflammatory properties to help healing.

Good idea. I will mash it into a paste and spread it on my bald head and roar defiance at the glaring sun.

Burn spray from the drug store. It's temporary relief.
In Austin last week, some guy fell asleep on a pier naked. Second degree burns. Ouch!

I've had sun burns so bad a couple of times I had to have a prescription of prednisone. And that was with sun block on!

I went to the St. Louis Zoo one year when it was 109 outside. The family was fine, but when I got home, I had 2nd degree burns on my face, neck, ears and arms. I was given a pain killer and silver "D" cream. That cream took the sting out, soothed and kept me from blistering. Took about 6 weeks for my skin to get back to normal.

Never mind, I just found out that one can get second degree sunburn. Dang, that apparently can damage deep skin tissue and nerve endings.

It was a weird story. The guy was asleep on someone else's pier. The woman who owned it became concerned when she realized that this guy had been out there a long time. She called authorities (don't blame her for that-stranger naked on pier isn't something I'd want to deal with!). The guy jumped in the water in an attempt to escape. Apparently, the authorities found him and took him to a hospital.
When you think about it, it's like cooking meat under a broiler. The sun is the broiler and the poor guy is the meat. I don't know the medical dangers besides the burnt skin. Looks like dehydration is likely. I assume that no one was basting him.
Anyway, this guy is healed by now. I hope that he's learned his lesson.
